Road Trip

#1
Good Morning,
My wife and I are planning a one week 3000 mile road trip with our TTA. Since we will be doing a lot of night driving I was hoping some of you had tried different headlight combos and better dash bulb lighting. Thanks very much.

Good morning,
Thanks for the advice so far. We are heading from Boston to Minnesota to visit our daughter. We are celebrating our 36 wedding anniversary during the trip. Our friends think we are nuts, just fly they say! I tell them you can't see America up close in an airplane, but you can cruising in a great car with the love of your life listening to Meatloaf on the cassette player!

Sounds like an awesome time! Better do that quick before it starts snowing, that's a lot of cold weather area to cover!

Morning guys,
We are leaving next week. Our kids bought us the seat cover kit on the group buy in 2008. Finally installing them. We are installing new carpet and headliner as well to have that new car feel. Putting on new BFG Comp 2 tires as well. Hope they are not to noisy. This trip has been a great excuse to redo the car and enjoy it. Taking the northern route out but on the way home taking Route 66 in Illinois down and then through Indy and Ohio. Life gets in the way for so many of us, but not this time! Thanks guys.

Have fun and congratulations on your 36th anniversary!
I run the BFG g-Force Sport Comp 2 as well. They are relatively inexpensive and have good dry grip (I don't drive in the rain). I have never noticed any tire noise.
I'd like to hear about what other tires TTA owners have experience with and how they perform, especially with regard to dry grip.

Sounds like a great trip. Lots to do and see on Route 66 in Illinois. Enjoy!
Good morning,
My wife and I started the trip Monday afternoon about 1:30 pm. Stayed in Buffalo NY. Yesterday put on 700 miles with zero problems other than the power antenna stopping. Must not have like my singing or maybe the speed! The BFG Comp 2s are a great tire. The car loves 80 to 90 mph hundreds of miles at a time. These cars are perfect for this type of trip. Last leg today. On to St Paul. Minn. Wish us luck!

Do the plastic cable replacement with a stainless steel cable as described on a sticky post on tb.com in the TTA section...I wrote it up..never replace it again.

The fellow who rebuilt mine used that type of cable as well. I had so much else apart at the time, that I decided to sublet that rebuild. So far, so good.

Morning guys,
Made it to Minnesota Wed. with zero problems. This part of the country is so beautiful. My wife and I crossed the Mississippi River for the first time in our lives. Going on a boat ride today. Found a record store in Great Bear Lake Minn. with used cassettes. Now we can cruise to Disco Inferno and Gary Puckett. Starting home tonight towards Route 66. Really looking forward to an adventure on the way home, plan as we go!

Hi guys,
Left yesterday afternoon. Traveled down route 35 along the Mississippi. Beautiful!! Cutting across today to pick up Rt. 66 in Joliet IL. Going to take our time, no timeframe. You people will laugh( our kids do) because we have old flip phones with no camera. We are taking pictures the old way! Will post some when we get home. We are reading maps we got from AAA. We have gotten lost a couple of times but that is half the fun. We just stop at motels we see along the way and pick the one that has a free breakfast! Car is flawless, no problems.

So picking up 66 at Joliet. And taking it as far as Springfield, before turning east to head to Indy?

Here are some of the things you might want to check our in Illinois.

While this is not everything there is to see in Illinois, here is a list I have made of some of the interesting things to see/do. I left in a few that are a little beyond the Joliet to Springfield route. The items in bold text are in, or very near, Springfield. There's a fair amount in the area, and you might want to make Springfield an overnight stop.

Enjoy your trip!
