Those searching for replacement oil drain plugs, I have the solution for ya'll. A few months back I started gaining interests from the TTA community regarding a reproduction of the "OEM" drain plug. Since no reproductions exist, I worked closely with a company to have these reproduced as accurately as possible.
There are some dimensional differences but none that I would be concerned with as these have been tested for fit and performance. For one, the width of the head is slightly smaller than our original specimens from PAS. I can't recall with certainty, but I believe it to be close to 1mm. The reason for this is that dimensionally the measurement was rounded down when given to the manufacturer.
There is also a slight difference in how far down the threads go toward the "flat" on the head of the plug. The reason for this has to do with the CNC machine as it will not allow it to cut that far down. Fret not as this has zero impact on installation because there are no threads in the oil pan that meet the drain plug in that area.
The plugs will utilize the same size 1/4" Allen key wrench and maintain the low profile design. The lower profile head is beneficial for ground clearance issues - which was the original reason why the TTA had these plugs from PAS to begin with. Looking at the top surface of the plugs head, you will notice it is more flat than is round our OEM plugs. I know of TTA owners that actually scraped their original OEM plugs. This flatter on the head of the reproduction unit may just have been the difference in some cases.
The idea behind reproducing these was to give the TTA community a replacement plug since none (with a low profile head) exist out there. The only plug available to us is the standard hex style called out for in the GM part catalog. Taking it a step further, the new design is an improvement over the OEM as it incorporates a magnetic tip. The magnet is not glued to the head...rather it's inserted a and bonded into the tip. And it's not a standard magnet either. The magnet is a Neodymium Magnet. Of over 20 strength levels of neodymium magnets available - these fall in the top 5. I can't begin to tell you how strong they are. I'll be honest, I didn't perform full blown test, but these drain plugs did hold about 1.5lbs keys with no issue whatsoever. To boot, these magnets maintain their strength at over 300 degrees. So if you are worried about collecting every bit of fine metallic particles from your oil, this for sure will do the trick once they make there way down the pan.
These plugs are made in the USA of 12L14 Steel and are plated with Nickle/Zinc. Same process utilized to meet the standards of Mercedez Benz in all their aluminum pan applications. Furthermore, each drain plug comes with a hydraulic washer that dimensionally is just about the same width as the drain plug head and slightly thicker (1/16" total thickness) than the OEM. Should you wish to utilize the OEM washer, there is no issue.
Due note: Although these plugs were designed for the TTA, they do fit other applications with the 1/2" - 20 thread. In fact, they also fit a 700R transmission.
I've sold some units through another outlet with a 100% satisfaction rating and I am pleased to continue offering them via the Forum.
The cost of each plug is $34.95 each plus actual USPS Priority shipping....which is about $6 +\- in the U.S. For folks that want more that one plug, the shipping cost will remain the same as long as the plugs all fit in a standard padded envelope. To give a sense on international shipping, I was able to get three over to Europe for $15. Those with interests, please message me here on the forum or via Email me at [email protected] and I'll be more than happy to field any questions.
I do have additional photos upon request.
Thank you for your time.
