The Legend
In 1989, Pontiac celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Trans Am with one of the most remarkable machines ever to wear the Firebird badge. The 1989 Turbo Trans Am 20th Anniversary Edition was selected as the official pace car for the 73rd Indianapolis 500, and every production unit was a faithful replica of that pace car.
Built by PAS (Production Automotive Services) in cooperation with Pontiac, the TTA was powered by a Buick-derived 3.8-liter turbocharged V6 producing 250 horsepower and an astonishing 345 lb-ft of torque. Equipped with a Garrett T3 turbocharger running 16.5 PSI of boost and mated to a specially calibrated THM 200-4R four-speed automatic transmission, the TTA could sprint from 0-60 in just 4.6 seconds.
Every TTA rolled off the line finished exclusively in white with a tan leather interior, gold honeycomb wheels, and functional hood scoops. Just 1,555 units were produced, making it one of the rarest and most collectible Pontiacs ever built.
