TTA oddness...

Ok...so I've been doing a total nut/bolt restoration on the TTA. I've been noticing a few oddities. Anyone notice weird stuff that makes no sense?

All right, here's the first one...the oil pan has the round nut portion on the inside of the pan...sooo during an oil change, your never getting all the oil out. Whatever's in the bottom 1/4" stays there.
I spent 10 minutes looking at that and wondering whyDontKnow:

...more to come

Sorry but what you just said don't make no sense to me, it' offset to one side so you can jack the other side higher, but i have never seen one drain all the oil out on any car...

I have seen that on most oem steel oil pans...kinda sucks to do a proper cleanout if antifreeze drops into the oil during an intake or headgasket change

noticed the factory drain plug takes an allen wrech .. found out they did this for ground clearance

i see what your saying now, it's been a long day, but you mean the tap is on the inside, i guess they thought that was better than a new oil pan every time you hit the outside plug and ripped it off...

im sure an rjc deep pan will work ... and will hit every speed bump u cross ... I have to dodge enough stuff with my cas front mount an still scrub it

Can't thread sheet metal so yeah, there is what amounts to a nut welded on the back side / inside the pan. Can't be on the outside due to clearance as stated previously, thats why the flat allen head bolt was used. Don't want to catch it on something and rip it off. Place it on the side of the pan and you will have the same problem due to the thickness of the bolt head.
Can always just pour an extra qt of oil in there with the bolt out so the used oil is flushed out, its really not enough to matter.

...actually wasn't complaining about it guys! Just found it odd that they would design the pan like this. They could have easily mounted the plug to the back or side of the lower pan.

BTW, how is your car coming along? you haven't posted any pics in awhile, let's see some !!...

Here's a couple shots of one part of the project..

Very nice looking work!
The oil pan thing was explained at the reunion so I guess everyone jumped on it :) since now we all know the reason. I'm sure due to the limited run they wanted to use the same tooling used for the Buicks since the pan is the same, was easier to put a flattened head Allen bolt in there due to cost. It does sit rather low. There were several weird design things Bill and Scott talked about... Post up your observations and I'm sure someone will know the reason now.

Wierd things, Have a TTA NOS wastegate assy. hose and a GN nos wastegate assy. hose. Both have the same GM part numbers. But we know one has the .040 orifice for the TTA and the .050 orifice for the GN.

I wanted to make sure the TTA orifice was the correct one, so I pulled the hoses apart and the TTA hose had the smaller orifice. Which is correct.

But the TTA "Y" had a diff. number than the GN "Y" had on it.

Another small oddness...the emergency brake cables appear to have two part number even though they're identical.....
Another pic

Nice stuff so is that all powder coated or did you paint calipers and brackets for instance? So much fun putting it all back together with all "new" and "fresh" parts !

We need to see more pictures !!!!

Calipers are and small stuff is all powdercoated...I'll post more soon!

I had a bunch of stuff powdercoated on my 82 including the t top bar, air cleaner, door handles and the headlight buckets. I can't wait to get the suspension stuff done.

I absolutely love the way a fresh motor looks. Its so cool you kinda just wanna keep it on the engine stand and not put it in the car lol.

Nice work!
