2014 Stingray Corvette, not that impressive, 0 to 60

Wow, that's the first I've seen of the rear of that car, that's hideous, the rest is awesome looking. Hmm, 4.8 on regular pavement, I'm sure that 3.8 advertised time is on a prepped drag strip. My Challenger pulled off a 3.97 0-60 on a prepped track, but that was probably the base model Vette also I'd hope.
 
The horsepower increase barely off sets the weight gain over the C6 coupe (not the porky grand sport). I don't believe I have seen a magazine test that has one running faster than my stock C6 ran - 12.29 @ 118. These cars are so fast now it kind of becomes irrelevant any way except for bragging rights. I have been in a bunch of the C7s and they feel very closed in inside compared to the C6. The interiors are very nice now, but that isn't the reason I have been buying Corvettes for 20 years.
 
I stand corrected. I started poking around on the Corvette Forum and I see people are reporting the automatics going much faster than the manuals that the magazines tend to prefer testing. People are reporting stock automatic transmission cars in the 11.7 range and manuals in the 12 flat range which is very impressive. I am now on my 5th Corvette and am down to only 1 after selling my ZR-1 this spring. I saw a bunch of them in person at Corvette's @ Carlisle a few months ago and they do look much better in person than in pictures. Unfortunately they are pricing them selves out of the market. It is hard to believe that a normally optioned coupe with the Z51 suspension package is just short of 70k. I have also never seen dealers start taking less than sticker price so early in a new generation of cars. People are reporting that some dealers won't budge, while others are taking several thousand below sticker. I think they are great cars and would like to own one, but I would much rather have multiple fun cars than one really expensive one.
 
The 1LT with Z51 package starts at 55 grand. But I will bet the dealers are ordering the Z51 package with the 3LT and with every other option, pushing the cost to high 60's.

The weight to horsepower/torque ratio would support these numbers realistically IMO. Traction and a so so/new driver with little seat time should be very pleased with a mid 12 second e.t.
