I have an 81 TTA and I was wondering what kind of upgrades I could do to the turbo. Like turbo with more boost or maybe an intercooler. Does anyone got any ideas.
Thanx.

Hi pabloESCOBAR187!
You can always add more boost on these cars, as the factory made them with a low boost amount. One way is to cut the boost rod (if it doesn't already have this done). There are some kits out there (like Turbo City in Orange, California) that you can replace your stock boost rod, and adjust the boost yourself. You may want to get a true boost guage to see the actual number though.
I, myself, went the NOS (NOSS in Ricer talk, or nitous) route. Works great! Just don't use it alot! Like about 10-14 seconds at a time, and I only use the 50 to 75 hp nozzle!
No one does an intercooler, as the turbo setup is different than the one used on the later Turbo cars!
You can check out:

for second generation Trans Am/Firebird message boards and such. Lot's of great second generation Turbo TA owner's over there, that can answer alot better than me, I'm sure! I go by WarbirdTA over there!

Hope this helps,

Hi again!
You can get the 1981 Pontiac Service manual, it should have all the info!
I may have one extra, but I am in the middle of a move to another state right now, to know for sure.
You can always check out ebay!

Email me at: [email protected] if you don't mind the wait.

Good luck,

George
