Engine Rebuild Break In Tips

The engine is back in and running awesome. I can't believe how much quieter, stronger and more responsive it is. It really drives more like the stock TTA did now with the new roller cam set up. It really is like a new car again...a new toy.

Any tips from those who have done this on how to break it in properly?

I remember my original TTA the owner's manual said to drive it conservatively for the first 1500 miles and to change the oil after the first 500 miles then every 3000 miles after.

Just wondering if this would be any different with the roller cam in it.

In my opinion you've run it past break-in period....time to change the oil and filter and drive as you normally would, even if that means hard.

The rings break in pretty quicky. It helps to bring rpm slowly up to around 4000 in first gear then decel back down to idle, rinse and repeat 4 or 5 times.

Yeah with the roller cam you are good to go. Just increase boost slowly and watch for knock, change oil like Rich suggests. Post a video/ pics of the like new car!!! I bet it looks awesome with new paint and motor

Yup rollers break in on start up pretty much. You want to drive it as you would normally drive it when it's got 10K on it. I would still use ZDDP. The machine shop I use say he's seeing wear in rollers already that don't use a good oil with zinc in it. I run Comp Cams race oil in all my cars.
