filling diff oil drives me NUTS!!!!!

So I have a leaky 12 bolt diff. I go to the parts store and get a gasket and get home to find it does have 12 bolt holes, 4 on the top and 8 on the bottom WTF!!

I got a new gasket and put it in and then go to pour the oil in..... OMG what a nightmare. I got more oil on me and the floor than anywhere else. I have a long skinny funnel but that did not help. I think it would be faster to remove the entire rear end and fill the diff and re-install and bleed the brakes that what I did today. Am I missing something? Is there a funnel or special pump that lets you fill the oil into the diff while having a stock location muffler? I did lift the car and let the rear drop down low low like as if I was pulling the fuel tank out. How does a mechanic do this at the shop???

Any advice is greatly appreciated before I pull my oily hair out and waste money oiling up my garage floor.

I ended up filling that little black bottle up and squeezing into the funnel a little at a time. Too much or to fast and it would spill on me cause the funnel is almost horizontal. Ugh!!! I've done some frustrating things on the garage floor before but this is just stupid. I must be doing it wrong. And ya the diff isn't full yet but all the stores are closed till Monday and my car is conveniently in the middle of the garage.

I cut the very top of the diff bottle's. Squeezed it in...

I made a mess. :disgust:

That rear cover you have looks even more tricky than the OEM cover as the drain plug sits higher and the fill hole seems much smaller as well.

I use a flexi pipe funnel and the funnel got a lid I can fill up and also a on/off tap thing ... not easy to get it in a good angle but doable and never made a mess lol
 
I found some like 1/2" hose in the garage and one of my buddies was over helping me do some maintenance at the time. I got under the car and we ran the hose through the wheel well. He squeezed the bottle and I held the hose in, go slow and you won't spill very much.
 
Thanks guys, I should have started this thread before I began this job. I hope this new gasket doesn't leak too, or I'll try silicon stuff.

She looks so impressed lol, she hates the smell of diff oil.

Thanks for the tube advice, simple solution just need to be told sometimes....
