Headliner Install

Looks Great! Nice Work There

I installed the vanity mirror on the new visor. My old one was starting to get cloudy and I did not want to use it. I ordered the GM replacement mirror from Classic Industries. It is a little bigger if I remember. I cut off the push pin mounting pins from the new unit. I glued the new one to the visor using the 3M Super 77 adhesive following the directions.....using two applications waiting to dry blah blah blah.

It turned out great and has not moved at all. Triple digit speeds around a Nascar track with the tops out and the visors down.

I might just do that as I don't see a way to punch the holes in the visor for the mirror to be pushed in place as from the factory ... I got a spare mirror (funny enough lol) so might go that route as well.

Jan, this one is probably like the spare you have. Just have to cut the pegs off the rear. The one pictured has too much fogging in it. Would have to look for a nice one. (Jan, the apple pie is good, I found it.)

Mike - how is the match compared to the original headliner?

The old headliner was in bad condition, I would recover it but it is broken into in more than one place. Broken into and the only thing holding it together was the material cover.

With the old headliner in, at the top of it with the t-tops removed a lot of the material was worn off. It kinda of looked like people had sit up there. This car was from a resort area in Tn and it could have been used in parades at one time. The reason I say this, the previous owner was the mayor there a few years ago.

Also, the old headliner was very dark and hard to compare it to.:beach:

I must say the headliner and the sunvisors are great. Can't say the same for the sailpanels. The Sailpanels attach with the coathook screw at the top, but the aftermarket sailpanels attach with velcro at the bottom. This will not work in 95 degree heat with the t-tops out.

I went to a cruise-in last Saturday with the t-tops out and the outside temp was in the mid 90s.

I heard something flapping and it sounded like a bird flapping. I looked back and one of the sailpanels had come loose at the bottom and started flapping. Well I guess they could be modified with somekind of clip on the bottom or somehow cliped like the original ones are.

In summary, the velcro does not work on the sailpanels. So for now I cleaned and put my original ones back in, until I can find a better way to secure the sailpanels.

Has anyone installed aftermaket sailpanels and found a soution?:wall:

I got a original mirror in last week in excellent condition. I thought about cutting the tabs off and using the 3M Super 77. And then again I am not sure if I want to do that to a nice mirror.

I had some comments about these last summer.

Thought they were flimsy and would not stay in place. I just ended up recovering my orig and havent had any problems. You do definately need clips to keep them in place.

For the sailpanel / speaker covers grab some from a 91-2 car and have them recovered. They are vinyl and have 4 proper hooks molded in to it.

I don't think ACME has changed the design of their sail panels. I just ordered the headliner/sun visor/sail panel kit from PUI interiors and the sail panels had the clips. The kit was really nice and went in pretty easy. I was going to order the ACME kit until I saw the sail panels. I didn't trust that velcro. If anyone goes for the PUI kit, I ordered mine through NOS4GN.com. They were awesome to deal with.

There was a discussion over on TGO recently about this. Acme recently changed the design, but the dealers still have the old design in stock. If you need the ones with the hooks, I would call and ask for them to be ordered.
