help with car number

hello all. I really enjoy this site. Lots of facts, history, & info here. I am looking into buying a lower mileage (63K) TTA. Can someone help me with determining the car number? The VIN is as follows: 1G5FW2172KL244368. any other know history on this car would be great. thanks in advance.

974 is correct :-)

That TTA been on ebay at least twice (2009 then in 2010) ... owned by the same guy between 1995 and 2009 (give or take a year or so) ... Florida at some point then IL ... mileage seems correct.

T-top / Leather combo !

Things i see about it, 1- tires are dry rotted 2- t-tops either leak or they was left out in the rain 3- steering wheel's are covered for a reason, don't look like the motor has been dicked with much (big plus), appear's the spoiler's been replaced (good) body look's good, all in all not too bad but i would'nt pay $12.900 and i would not buy it sight unseen. as is i see no more than 11k for it and that's just what we can see it needs...

yes sir. I do intend to inspect this car in person. I am trying to decide if I even want to drive 400 plus miles to look this car.
Also just trying to get a ball park figure from some of the TTA seasoned vets.

Okay, if the car is mechanically sound i would say 11k is a fair price, if it's not you can run into a real chitstorm money wise to get it right, if you are serious about it pm me a phone # and i will try to tell you what to look for. Remember big thing's are just a lot of little things that can cost you a lot of money a little bit at a time.... :eam:
 
Cant say for sure, but if the car was on ebay in 2010 and it was June 2010, I talked to the owner-he lived in Palatine. I was on vacation at the time and he told me he wanted 10k for it. The reserve wasnt met on ebay (went to 9k and some change)and I called him after the auction was over to go set up appt to look at it. He never returned my calls and then I saw it was bought by that dealer in the same city, advertised on his website. I'm guessing he paid around 10k for it. He wanted to sell it promptly, probably wanted a quick sale, so the dealer got it. Naturally the dealer's trying to flip it for a profit.

I could be wrong, but sounds too coincidental to me.
 
63k isnt low mileage i bet the drivers seat bolster is messed up ... i paid up for tta299 34k miles I dont conside it low miles either but no seat wear or sterring wheel issues an it was on factory tires bone stock ... ive never washed or insured it since i had it

Why are you waiting to wash it fer? Hope you got a good cover :teehee: or do yo just want to look at it? :eam:
 
Id say $11k tops. The seat bolster is bad, rusty heat sheild, steering wheel, and the drivers door key lock is replaced and silver where the passenger door's is all black. Seems to be replaced rather than paint worn from use cause mine are worn from the past 23 years and still have some black paint on them. Makes me wonder if the car was ever stolen/broken into? This car warrents in person inspection and a thorough interview of the owner regarding car history. In this market $11k IMO.
 
Not to mention it needs tires bad, the headliner is torn on the top and it needs new emblems. Could be fixed up, if bought at the right price. Without the end cost being too much.
 
Yeah, even though mine was repainted, new emblems and seals, redone front seats, I've still spent over 2k more on things to finish it out. Hawks seat covers (have 2 fronts brand new in storage), steering wheel, shifter knob, coolant tank and cover, floor mats, custom hood insulator and prob more stuff I forgot about. All I'm saying is, it adds up quickly. So make sure you get the car for a decent price.

The only way I came out ahead with 984 is I nearly had nothing in it to start with since it was handed down to me. If I would have paid a few thousand for it I would be upside down in it, sort of speak.

I need to really make a list of what I replaced and spent on the car, I am sure it would be quite a chunk of change!!!

I printed out my ebay/paypal purchases recently and documented everything I bought over the last 2 yrs or so. Ouch! It does get addicting wanting to replace everything in the interior and stuff in the engine bay.
 
Not saying the car isn't worth between the $11K & the $12.9K asking price, but I just bought one with 12,000 miles on it for not a whole lot more than the asking price in comparison. Mileage or age, if performance tires on any car are around 10 years old they will be toast, so on just about any low miler with ZR tires you would be replacing them anyhow, but that is about another $1000.00 in rubber. Up here a seat can cost around $500.00 to repair. And then there is always somnething you miss. I always budget $500.00 on immeadiate repairs I didn't see barring something major.
Just saying, that what ever you pay for it you will add about $2000.00 in tires & repairs. I'd be deducting the cost of tires off the $11K and I think you may be more in the range in this market for a 63K car. 63K, which is 100klms up here would not be considered low mileage by any stretch for a collector car. Generally 50klms, or 30,000 miles gets in the range of low milers.
But, if you and the vendor are happy with what ever deal you put together & it's a good car, then what is anyone to say about it. Sometimes a car that has been driven & pampered is better than one that has been a garage queen. They all have the same issues form sitting,.
 
I stopped adding up what I spent on mine ... then along with spare parts ... collectibles ... lots of k$$ in total ... heck that's why the call it a hobby right :D

Glad I got a stash of spare parts as well as my headlight switch is giving up on me so need to take that apart and see if I can sort it or if I have to install a NOS switch instead ...

Keeping these cars on the road also cost $$$

But we have fun, don't drink, no women (or men), don't smoke or gamble ... ye right ;)
 
Yuuup. Just did the headlight actuator elements & gears the other night. Enough of the one eye'd bandit !
 
I bought my first one in March/April of 1989 for $31k, sold it for $11K when I got married in 1991.

I didn't buy my second one, #613, until Feb of 2011 for $13601 46,000 on the clock on Ebay. Nice Stocker car but I have easily put $5k in it and it still needs new leather on the front seats and a paint job.

I also bought #3, #1040, off Craigslist last April 2011 for $4000, and have easily put $6k in the restoration so far and still need to be painted. This is my RAYDER project and can't wait to be finished with it.

Bottom line..... THEY ARE A PASSION!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think I will ever recoup the loss from my first one...but it is my goal to, and I don't think I am that far off.

What an awesome car!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
The sad thing for me,
Is that I could have another TTA or two, with all the crap I have collected over the years. ;) But at least I have one. ;)
