When my engine builder spray painted my engine block he didn't mask my intake and valve covers. I was unhappy about the overspray but they were looking a little tarnished anyways so I was inspired to make some appearance improvements while the engine was out.
I was going to have them jet-hot coated but I needed to smooth the rough casting for a smooth jet-hot finish anyways. My brother bought me a polished upper plenum for Christmas so I decided to take a shot at home polishing. I really wanted the lower to match the upper and sending my parts to a pro was going to cost $650 or more.
So far this job has definately been a learning experience. It is not done, when you see it up close in person it still has inperfections. If fact even when it gets re-installed it will probably still have a few flaws but I feel I'm making progress.
I've spent $40 in dremel attachments/sanding disks and probably 20 hours of my time. I've actually been enjoying the project and I'm learning a lot! Here are a couple of pics!
