I removed both my screens with no adverse
effect. The car seemed to be a bit more responsive under partial throttle. Didn't get to the track to do a before vs. after time comparison. Makes sense to me to have no inlet restrictions to air flow.

Usually unless your chip has been programmed for it, you have to leave 1 screen in. The screen acts like a guide to guide the air thru the venturi correctly for an acurate reading. Usually a rough idle condition will happen if you remove both without programming the chip for it. But there have been case where both have been removed with no side effects.
You can put them back in, they are just sandwiched together with a locking ring on the outside to hold them in.
I have 1 screen removed in my GN, but both are still in the TTA.

The screen "smooths" the air as it moves across the grid in the sensor. That screen is the least of your worries when it comes to inlet air restrictions.

What would be the hp gain with the removal of the screens with an ATR air inlet system, a K&N air filter and a performance chip?
I know on the 89 350 Tuned Port cars its about 5hp when the plenum is cleaned up and a K&N air filter is used. But a L98 TPI engine does not move the air these buick engines do and it is slightly smaller.

So if I removed both of the MAF screens, would that be causing a surging idle on my TTA? I don't know what you guy's HP gains were, but I notice the throttle response imroved enough to notice a gain. I think I gained around 8 to 12 horsepower, but if you can feel a noticeable different, than it should be at least an 8 to 10 hp gain!
