New GM power antenna

Put a new GM power antenna in my car today and I'm very disappointed in the quality of it. I get my parts for 10% over cost through a friend of mine but it still cost me around $130 bucks. This looks like a $49.95 JC Whitney special! The stock mounting bracket doesn't fit, the antenna cable attachment is hokey, the top attachment nut doesn't look like the stock one and it's chrome instead of black, the cheapy plastic trim pieces that go under the mounting nut doesn't fit the fender right, etc, I could go on and on. :explosion:Looks like I'll be hunting the pieces down to repair the old one for the future.
 
My TTA had one of these antennas on it when I bought it. I decided to buy a fixed mast and it works perfect. I am so tired of the problem associated with older GM power antennas. I am not concerned with the originality of my TTA ( 12 bolt,Aerospace brakes,Spohn tubular K-member,etc....)
 
I would say it is Jan. It has a 12" or so bracket with holes in it that you cut to length and bend as needed. The antenna cable is a screw in one that has a short lead with a plate that attaches to the original antenna cable plate and the top nut is a different shape and is chrome. They give you a number of plastic pieces to go under the nut but none fit the fender close enough. All in all a good reason to get your original rebuilt.
 
Went through this with the antenae for my SSEi. Basically, GM now just sells you a generic-type instead of an exact replacement. You're better off buying a rebuild kit to fix your original.
 
Mine was just like the one described above and it was stuck midway up. I have a new cable/mast repair kit that came with the car but I didn't use it. FWIW mine had the ugly chrome nut and bezel also but an original nut and bezel will fit. I changed mine from a doner GTA and it looked OEM from the outside just stuck in the middle. When I took mine apart to fix the mast I seen it was not an original ( I thought someone had just changed the nut and bezel)and decided to buy a fixed mast set-up on E-bay for around $20 from a camaro. Looks good and I saved a few pounds to boot. When I come across a nice working original I will pick it up and put it back with my other parts.
