I just got the PHS paperwork on my car. It is #916. One thing is rather strange,however. My car has cloth interior and the window sticker shows leather. Either someone changed this interior, or the sticker is wrong. Should I assume PHS is correct? I haven't found the build sheet and the sticker in the console with RPO codes is not there.

First off, welcome to the site!
As for your interior, if your documents show leather, and a extra charge, then that's what your car should have.
I can't see you being charged (well, the invoice the first buyer used to buy the car) for leather, and getting cloth, which was no cost.
Looks like you need to start collecting some more TTA stuff now.
T-Tops and leather were pretty much the only options (from the factory, who knows, dealerships add lots of other stuff).

I have herd of people changing out their interiors. I know of one that was changed over to a grey cloth interior. They changed all the plastic over to grey from the doner car. I don't like the color, but it makes for an unusual TTA!

The dealer on the window sticker is in North Carolina. They're still in business, so I'll call them tomorrow and see if they still have any records of this car. I bought this from a broker who knew nothing about the car but said it had an "interesting history". I got the owner's name and addr ess off the title; called him several times and left a message-no reply. I guess I'll examine the nuts on the seat brackets to look for any signs of being disturbed.
 
that is strange! Shame someone tool the RPO codes out of the center console.. most of the cloth cars were festival cars and tend to go for more money.. wonder if someone switched out the seats to make it look like a festival car. The leather they used in 89 was horrible and did'nt last. So maybe they either did it because the leather was shot or did it to make it look like a festival car for more money. There is a build sheet in the back where the spare tire is. there is also one sometimes found under the carpet on the pass. side of the car under the seat or under where your feet would rest. Might want to dig around and see if you can find one of them might have the inteior codes on them. Jax makes slip over leather seat covers for our cars so you could go back to leather if you really wanted. I was at a show over the summer and there was a shitty white GTA there. I walked up to it and it had the clother interior from a TTA in it! So anything is possible. You do have the high back rear seats right? Those were special to the TTA and GTA notchback only cars.
 
Thanks for the interest, Jim. I'd been looking for a TTA for several years, on and off. I decided a while ago I wanted cloth. It is rarer and chances are good a cloth car is a Festival car. The most important reason is it holds up so much better. I've owned 3 other 3rd gen f-bodies( two Z28's, one TA),all with cloth, and it wears very well. Whatever it started with doesn't matter to me-it's staying with cloth. I checked the spare tire well as soon as I got it. As time goes by, I'll probably pull the carpet- I've found them in other cars I've owned, so this may turn up. Is there any ID plate on the body with the interior code? Console cover appears to be a replacement; that's why no RPO's. P.S. That article in Hemming's about your car made me intensify my search for one. Nice car.

Funny were all in the same boat here.. I HATE leather.. esp. late 80's "looks like high end leather but is junk" kind! :shock: When I bought my TTA I was on the fence with a festival car. It was mint and low miles and the price was right. Full docs and perfect. But it was about 4000 miles away. It's so hard to buy a car from pics. Just before I was going to fly out there and check it out in person mine popped up. My TTA was less then 2 miles from my house! I saw that as a sign. So I went with the one I got. I'm happy but the cloth is really awesome in these cars. My buddy has a nice GTA with a tan interior and everytime I'm in that thing I wish I had that cloth car! OR at least the money to buy both of them! :P

The RPO sticker should be in the center console not the lid. I guess either way it's missing if you didn't see it in there. Maybe you'll get lucky and find the one under the pass. seat. I'm crazy with that stuff. I've hunted down all the owners of my car and talk to them on a monthly basis via e-mail. Weird how they all still care about the car. Glad the Hemmings article pushed you to get one! They are the best car out there IMO. It's amazing the power and performance these cars have. Blows me away everytime I have her out! Now lets see some more pics! :)
 
I contacted the selling dealer in NC. No luck- they couldn't find any of their 1989 records. Since I bought it from a dealer/broker, I wasn't able to talk to the last owner. However, I got his name and address off the title. I've called several times and left a message, but have been unable to reach him. Maybe he's pissed because I bought it so cheap; maybe there are issues he doesn't want to discuss. Either way, I love the car. Carfax showed this car titled in Dunn, NC, then in Liberty Center, OH, then finally in Colfax,LA. Maybe someone in these areas will remember this car. It's kind of fun trying to unravel this "mystery". Right now, I'm just driving it and enjoying it.
