Does anyone know if the OE Tires (Goodyear Eagle) are available anywhere?

My father in law noticed recently that there is a split near one of the inside treads on his car (1527). They are the original factory tires.

I've done a few searches and the only thing close is from Tirerack carrying a BF Goodrich Z rated 245-50-16. Any help would be appreciated.
 
Goodyear no longer makes the gatorbacks in our size 245/50ZR/16. There have been some posts on the forums about which replacement tires people like best and you can search the forums. Sometimes you can find people selling used gatorbacks on Craigslist or eBay, but those would still be old tires from back in the days. There were some on sale on here a couple months ago and they may still be for sale 2 Gator backs for sale - Turbo Trans Am Forum
 
Thanks Mike. The BF Goodrich look nice. It's in storage for the winter so the decision won't be needed until spring.
 
You can also go with a w rating, firestone indy A/S got very good reviews, that's what i just bought but haven't drove the car yet...
 
Keep in mind tires don't make a big difference in price on these cars if they are original or replacements. Yea it's nice to have the original tires but rubber is not made to last 5 to 10 years let alone 25 years. The tires are what connect you to the ground. Find a good replacement and change them all and be safe. If you have the space you could always put the originals away and store them for the next guy.

I have original Eagle GT's on my 86 GN that I put on a few years ago. They were stored in a climate controlled environment since 1986. The rubber is soft and no cracks but they have no traction at all! I take it very easy on that car. I have BPG G-Force on the TTA and love them but I don't think they make those anymore.

Be safe and don't run 25 year old rubber on your TTA's!
 
Kelsey Tire has been *threatening* to remake our ZR-50's for a few years now but have yet to do so. every now and again i bump a thread on another site about these tires and all i get is a "stay tuned." they do have it in a 17" size for the Mustang GT's but that does us no good.

if WE All send a note to Kelsey Tire showing genuine interest it might help light a fire under their butt's to help get this project going.
however, they do tend to be very proud of their repop tires and price them accordingly. realistically i'm not sure how many people would pony up say $1,200+ dead Presidents for OE Gatorbacks. but knowing me i would.....

There is also a summer version with a "full name" of:
"Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500" ... ultra-high performance summer tires.
They are also a "W" rated...

What size did you get? I am getting my rims back soon that I refinished and have been contemplating what tires to put on them.
 
Tires "on sale"

I just ordered a set of 4 from the Tire Rack - "Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500":cool: in the stock size 245/50-16 (the ultra-high performance summer version). Not only has the price dropped since the fall, but starting 3/15/14 there is an additional "Spring Savings" deal from Firestone for a $50 prepaid VISA card... that will almost cover the shipping :thumbup:
The A/S version of those tires are only a little more $ each.
Overall, a pretty sweet deal :cheers:
