oil leak from filter

I just got my car delivered and I noticed an oil leak from the filter area. Upon closer inspection, the filter has a hole in it from hitting into the idler arm. The engine moves around a bit when putting car in gear. I have also noticed a few other posts where guys say that their engines move around a bit.
The car has 27500 miles on it. Could the engine mounts be bad? The filter on it is a Purolator. Is it possible that this filter is too big?
I am going to change the oil, but the parts place does not have the filter in stock until tomorrow.

Mine (and many others) have the engine moving around alot when putting it in gear ... so guess its normal and not a problem with your engine mounts.

I run the shorter Napa Gold 1086 filter on mine as it give that extra clearance and it works fine for me. Others run the K&N and other "as short" filters.

I beleive the Purolator filter is the same length as the original Delco PF1218 filters and do sit very close to the idler arm.

I would go with a shorter filter (plenty of views and tests on brand to go with) to eliminate any future problems. As I mentioned I run the Napa Gold 1086 (made by Wix) and been happy with that one. Also use a Filtermag magnet on the filter for some extra protection as it picks up all the really fine "dust" in the oil.

Same here, use the Wix or Napa Gold, same filter and shorter than the Purolator which is not a good brand of filter.

I was reading some older posts and noticed most guys are using the Wix filter. That is why I had to wait as the parts place did not have that brand in stock. I will find out Wednesday if it fixes the issue. Thanks for the help guys.

Have been using Napa gold 1086 and valvoline racing oil, the engine hardly has any leakage at all. The oil is non-synthetic

+5 on the Napa Gold (Wix) 1086 Oil Filter, its a quality filter. On the Wix web site, the 1086 only fits the TTA, no other makes/models use this filter according to their cross-reference, witch I guess makes it special for our cars, lucky us:WOOT:

Actually I believe it has a Mercruiser 470 marine engine application too and the WIX number is 51086.

Sorry, I meant the applications: Click on the link, click filter 51086, then the applications that this filter fits. Its only the 1989 Turbo TTA.

The Wix filter did the trick. It is much smaller then the Purolator Pure One filter I had on there, and fits great. While I was in the parts store I compared the standard Purolator filter to the Pure One and the standard filter is alot smaller, so I think it would fit no problem. But the general consensus seems to be that it is not a good quality filter. Thanks for the help guys.
