Painting clear on emblems

Has anyone on here had someone paint clearcoat over the emblems? I've got a set of GM Restoration parts emblems that I plan on putting on the car and I want them to stay shiney and in good condition for the life of the car so I won't have to replace them again. Well I was thinking about having my friend spray some clearcoat over them but I was wondering if anyone has tried this and what their results were. I thought it might make them too shiney, or make them give off weird reflections.

I have never painted mine clear, but I do use a very high carnuba content wax on them that stays in place. Now granted my cars do not get much wear, but it works for me.

I dont really think clearcoating emblems would be a good idea. A surface must be sanded or scratched to allow a paint or clear of any kind to bond. If you dont it will peel, the only question will be when not if. If you sand the emblems you have killed all of the polishing that has been designed into the emblems. I am gonna have to go with Dave on this one and say just buy a nice set of replacements and keep them clean & polished. No protectant in the world will do anything if you dont take care of them.

When I built my Black 87 GTA I searched & found all new OEM Emblems, of course this was before the aftermarket or reproduction emblems were available. I have now purchased a set of the reproduction emblems for the TTA and they are so much nicer and better quality that those that they originally used back on our cars from the factory.

The gold don't last very long ... after about 2 years on my car some of the emblems start to look worn already ...
