Parking brake frustration!

fast400

Pressurized
My TTA failed inspection due to parking brake not holding. I've spent hours...yes hours trying to get the :censor: to hold! The calipers are rebuilt, pads new, cables new. I've adjusting by the service manual using the adjustment screws...crap. I attempted to adjust 'Bob' Style by adjusting the cable tightness(tunnel) until I got light dragging...better but still shit.
Am I missing some miracle third adjustment screw? What's the magic?

Are you adjusting the nut on the long bolt located up in the tunnel above the drive shaft? It will pull the bracket that holds the two ebrake cables closer to the front of the car so when you pull the ebrake handle up it is tighter to start than before.

Does that make sense??

The adjustment screws you speak of where exactly are they located??

If I remember correctly, these adjust automatically when the brake is on and the car rolls backwards. I remember setting the parking brake and putting my car in reverse and hitting the gas a few times off and on to get them to work better. That wasn't a very good setup on the f-bodies.

Like Jarred said there is a clip on each side above the driveshaft that the cable hook's to, i had one come off and hit the DS everytime it turned, bout drove me crazy trying to find that " ding-a-ling"...

As long as your wife doesn't have the same trouble:yes:

I got mine to hold a little better by doing the TGO fix...that was pulling up the ebrake handle 20-30 times in a row....it seemed to reduce the travel of the handle thereby tightening the piston a little bit more..

Or you could try a new inspection place....

Sometime I'll tell you all about my e-brake experiment at the dragstrip.....highly embarassing.:bash:

The 20-30 times worked for me, just did it recently. I think WS6 told us about that a year or 2. It worked for me.

Hey Robert, remember the DING A LING song by Chuck Berry. I hope you don't start singing it again!:toot:

Too be honest, I can put the TTA in D or R and it holds great. Can even get out of the TTA with it in gear with the p brake on and it don't move. I tryed that today!:beach:

There are two tiny Allen screws located above the bleed screw. The cable under the tunnel should only be adjusted to get both sides resting with the e-brake arm resting against the caliper.

I did all my adjusting with the nut and bolt in the tunnel when I went to after market brake calipers as that was all I had to work with. Good luck sorry I am not more help.
