pistons and compression ratio questions

trying to decide if I really need forged pistons for my build up.

only plan on driving this car on the street with an occasional trip to the track.

should I keep the stock GN pistons to save money?

buy TRW GN style pistons?

or should I spend the bucks on J&E pistons then spend even more money to have the assembly balanced?

I will be using TTA heads

will the extra compression really hurt anything ?

well I am going through the same thing, I am definately going to go with the lightweight forget (JE or Ross or Weisco, not trw)
with a boosted car if you raise the compression you won't be able to run as much boost and/or timing. that may not be a big deal to you if you are only going to drive on the street, but if you do decide to go with GN pistons, at least get the trw forged, the added strength will offset the added forces of higher compression.
also be carefull, you will see knock retard alot sooner with everything else the same.

personally I would like to lower the C/R to about 7.5 on mine, it would be a slug out of the boost but I could safely run a ton of boost on pump gas and make gobs of power in the process

I personally would like to try GN type forged pistons with forged rods, and still try to run 20psi with race gas! I would like to gain as much non-turbo power as I can for my TTA, for some open road racing that I may be doing in the future!
