I believe the new powerloggers dont require the scanmaster....but that would mean you need the laptop to monitor and change settings.
The scanmaster is almost a must have if it's street driven as you can see in real time,in front of your line of sight, what's going on.
If it's a track only car then you'd be just reviewing logs and changing the tune via the laptop.
the older version software for the PL needed the scanamster to alter the chips parameters.
