Stall converter

Looking into a 12" or 11" 2800 stall converter. I would like to know what it means when the stall converter has a ballooning plate. How does this differ from one that doesn't? Any info is appreciated.

The anti ballooning plate is a plate that keeps the converter (if it fails) from warping/moving/breaking apart and taking out the thrust on the crankshaft.

My converters all have two anti ballooning plates. I have only ever seen one converter actually do it and who knows if it was a faulty install, lack of fluid, or a bad converter.

It's a good thing to have. Mine did it, as did the one on my dad's Grand National. They were both factory converters.
