Title Searches

Does anyone know of a way to do a title search on a car so to get the names of previous owners?

ahhhhhh carfax.com (I think) cost $$$$...might be able to find someone who has an account open an let them check it

I've done CARFAX and it just gives me the dates, mileages and locations where the car has been registered. I'd like to know WHO owned my car so I can do some research. I appreciate your help.
