Transmission Questions

TTA579

South Bay TTA "Barn" Find
While cruising down the street between 35-45 mph with just enough throttle to maintain speed the transmission/engine maintains ~2k-2.5k rpm. Is this normal for these cars? Car is in OD.

Not knowing what may have been done to this car in the past, is this normal for a high stall torque converter? I'm not familiar with those either.

We can assume that the transmission in #579 has been as meticulously maintained by it's original owner as the rest of the car (almost not at all), and probably needs to be serviced. What is the typical service regimin for the 200R4?

I'd like to purchase from cpttransmission.com in the future. But, until then I need this transmission to work.

when u give it the gas hard does it slip going from 2nd to third gear ? how many miles on the car ?

Doesn't slip hard upshifting, downshifts hard when applied throttle. 96k miles.

Took my car out today (gotta take advantage of these last nice days). Watched my RPM's and shifts. At 45mph was at 1.9k, then when car is in OD at about 50mph was at 1.5k. My tranny is upgraded also, car shifts hard (but doesnt slip) from 1-2, 2-3, OD shift is smooth. Downshifting is smooth. I was told the tranny was from Connolly or some name close to that, a shop in Texas. Never could find out any other info. I dont know if your cars RPM's are too high or mine are too low, but there is a comparision for you.

I feel like 1.9k is a little lower than what I'm seeing. But I'll have to check.

Your most likely referring to Lawrence Conley of the famed "tweaked", he's out of Texas and was a big shot in the Buick world. One of the first guys to go into the 8's in the 1/4 mile back in the ealry 90's. I believe he got out of the Buick world due to health issues. I talked to him a great deal back then. I sold his wife 2 paintings I did back then. If he did your trans it's prolly done well. Side note: I have his die-cast car pictured below...

I got my trans and convertor done by "the Real Art Carr" He's a knowledgeable guy. I have his Non locking 2800 stall conv. and had him build up the trans to hold whatever I throw at it. $3,500 for the whole package. Big bucks, but you get what you pay for. I had 2 other trans upgrades, both failed in short order.
I'm very pleased with what he did and the driveability without the lock-up isn't really noticeable to me.

The 90's sounds about right. Car has been in Ohio for about 7-8 yrs, Missouri before that for a short time and Texas from new till around 2000.
Thats good to know-thanks. Tranny is strong-seems like a good one.

At 45mph in od rpm is 1500

At 70mph the rpm is 2300

These rpm was taken from the Scanmaster.

Probably don't matter but the a.c. was on in both, justing testing the a.c since I charged it the other day.
