South Bay TTA "Barn" Find
Hello everyone,

I just purchased TTA 579 from a used car lot in Redondo Beach, CA today. I'm the second owner of the car (it was on the lot a total of 5 days) and I'm sad to say that the previous owner left the car out to rot in the California sun. It looks like it could have been there for all 20 years.

I look forward to getting her back in top condition with your help.

I don't have anything good yet, the car currently doesn't run (no fuel delivery) so I haven't had the opportunity to put it somewhere I can take some good photos.
 
If you don't mind, how much did you pay for the car? Mileage?

Looks to be mostly original except for the heater core hoses and plug wires. I'm surprised to see it still has the wastegate solenoid filter on it, even my car when I got it with 16k miles on it didn't have the filter anymore.

For fuel delivery the first thing I would check is that the fuel pump is kicking on. When you turn the key on you should be able to hear it turn on for a couple of seconds. The fuels pumps and pump relays are known to go bad on these cars. Start picking up some diagnostic equipment like a Scanmaster and fuel pressure gauge.

Good luck with the car, it definitely needs some work but some elbow grease and I bet you'd be surprised what that engine bay can look like in a couple days time.

I lived in Lomita/Torrance area, until about 6 years ago.
I hung out at H. O. Racing in your town all the time, while I lived out there, all those years before.
Was the car advertised in the paper, or you just found it, driving by.

JBO huh? haha maybe you can tell those fools this car is no joke, they don't seem to believe me

Looks like it needs some love, check out hawks third gen parts they have some pieces it looks like you need. Also your turbo badge on the front fender is in the wrong spot
 
So many questions! :D

I paid $4500. Mileage sits at ~95,000. I stopped by a small used car lot on Pacific Coast Highway to look at some C4 convertibles they had and this thing was sitting in the middle of their lot looking rather sad. They only had it a couple of days, hadn't even washed it yet. I knew what it was only after I opened the hood.

Rodimus, the JBO guys don't see outside their world much. My '04 Sunfire is going to feel like a parts mule soon.
 
Thanks for the tips. I may need to replace the hood struts first just so I can work on the engine.
Any tips on where to buy a scanmaster?

wow that poor old gal needs some love! Nice little project! With everything being there, some labor of love and a little cash and you can make her better and stronger then ever. Take those turbo badges off they are in the wrong location! :) Keep us up to date with the progress and pics of the progress as well. Any question you ever could have will be answered right here so don't be shy!

Congrats Scott, I started with a 95k mile car that had seen better days and have since restored it completely so if you take your time and assess what needs to be done and then collect parts etc it should not be too bad.

If you have time maybe you can provide me wiht some more details from your car I can add to the overall list of all 1555 TTA's ...

See this page for what I'm after and where you find the details, anything you can provide would be much appreciated and help in the overall quest to gather all details about the 1555 TTA's :-)
