I just bought my first TTA (and awaiting delivery) and I am looking for information on how the catylitic converter. is it a loose flange or a rectangular flange with four bolts. On www.89tta.com he has a picture of one upside down that looks like it has a loose flange. Did all of the cars come that way? And is the exhaust from the cat back the same as a TA or a GTA with the 5.0 or 5.7L engines??? Please help.
The cat has a welded on flange that mates to a matching flange on the intermediate pipe (the long pipe that runs front to back under the car). The flange on the intermediate pipe is actually bolted on. The intermediate pipe is flaired. One side of the flage that goes on it has a bell that mates to the flair. Like I said, both flanges are then bolted together with 4 bolts to join the intermediate pipe to the cat. Go here:
This is the exhaust section of Johnsperformace.com. Toward the bottom you will find good pics of the Terry Houston cat and dump tube. They both have the squareish flange that would mate to the stock exhaust like the stock cat would.
Yes the exhaust is "the same". John used to list the PN for the Hooker cat back before he started to carry the Terry Houston. The key was that the year specified had a couple of different PNs depending on engine, I don't know the differences. We used like the 305 exhaust I think. I can dig up the PN if you need it as I bought the Hooker system. At a minimum you could use it to figure out the applicatin so that you can buy what ever cat back you want.
