Wing cracking

i've looked at alot of GTA's and atleast 10 turbo ta's over the years,
Why do you all think that the TTA's wings crack, but the GTA's Formulas and TAs form the same years wings didn't crack? I had a 89 5.0 GTA 5 spd and the wing never cracked. The 5.0 was a bit modified and it had some body twisting torque, does the Turbo cars torque what make for the wing crack??DontKnow: I thought thwy ere all built on the same line then shipped to PAS for finishing, then wouldn't all the wings be the same?:whistle:

Might be, but there are two others GTA's in my town and both have cracked spoilers...I saw the one of them lastnight and he had a black non cracked fiberglass in primer.

I think yours didnt crack because it was new and the rubber was still flexible for awhile.

Could be, but what got me thinking about it, was tonight I was browsing e-bay (I'm still wanting a 87-90 GTA) I noticed that all of them had perfect wings or atleast not cracked and a average of 60K miles or more. :crazy:

All wings are the same from the assembly plant at Van Nuys, CA. There's a number of metal brackets molded inside of the wing for the clips to hold it in place. These start rusting very quickly over the years (moisture and possibly something from the rubber compound in the wing itself) and then start to expand and hence paint cracking and later the rubber will crack and shoot pieces out ....

Fiberglass is the way to go, lasts for ever and great weight saving as well

hmm never knew the reason why they cracked. I thought it was more the stress then anything. I guess this is why my TTA has 30K on it with the original wing. One thing I noticed at all the shows I've been to with other TTA's my car is really white. The others have had like a yellow look to them. I only noticed this parked next to other TTA. From what I could tell all the owners of my car kept it in climate controlled garages and only used it in the spring and fall.

I've had my car since it was new and it has always been garaged. It's creamy colored.
The wing hasn't been exposed to moisture...maybe it's the stress:burnrubber:

While I lived by the beach most of the years I owned my car, I was always washing the car with a bucket or hose, never at a car wash.
Even with a hose, I always would stuff the towel as far under the spoiler as I could, to suck up the water.
It must have worked, for my spoiler is not cracked.
Most people don't do that, and the water will get soaked up by the metal that is the inside of the spoiler.
I have also always kept my car in the garage, and yes, my car is kinda yellow as well.
I would think it is the clear coat.
