Are ther any adverse affect of using oil additives on turbo charged cars. I use lucas in almost everything. Good idea or not so good? Anyone ever had any problems? What oil do you run in your TTA?

I run Mobil 1 10W30, add a bottle of STP-red additive and a Napa 1086 filter. Done this twice now - no issues here.
Oil is one of those things that everyone has their own opinion. I've heard everything from running the top of the line oil and best additives, to just running diesel Rotella oil, both coming from people who are very well known in building LC2s. For most of us, it doesn't make a difference IMO. We change our oil at less than 3k miles so it never even begins to break down from shear. Personally, I used to use Mobil 1 synthetic since it's what came in the car, now I throw in whatever I feel like buying at the time (lately Rotella, it's cheap). If my motor blows up, there's about a 0.1% chance that it's because of the oil that I'm using, but I always just say buy what makes you feel comfortable.
Half a bottle every change is all you need in most cases.
Keep in mind you can take a cam lobe damn near all the way down to round and not feel it in the performance of the car.

Jim....seriously now... by the time a lobe starts going down .10 it would clatter because it gains lash. I can't imagine the noise it would make if the lobe was gone. And it certainly would have dead miss and idle like crap. I've wiped a couple lobes and you couldn't see it with the naked eye, but could measure it with mics. It ticked terrible too and shook with the miss it developed.
Do this at your own peril! I've read and been told that ZDDP is the sacrifical component in the oil and it goes away(gets used up) with use. Why not use the whole bottle? it's only $8 a bottle.
Only thing I put in my oil is ZDDP, even though I have a roller cam. Still helps I'm told.
They are now finding wear in roller cams as well so keep it up! Can never be too safe.
Maybe they will just put the darned zinc back in the oil if it gets bad enough...
The use of zinc additives is not a point of contention with me, but rather the inability to notice one has a lobe going away. If a lobe is disintegrating the torque to lash setting gets loose and noisy....and early on in the damage.
There is also other factors to consider in premature cam failure; improperly hardened camshafts, cheap aftermarket lifters. Guys who run waaaaayyy to aggressive cam profiles for street cars and then get talked into valve springs with too high open seat pressures. And I think the later is more often the culprit than using poor oil or lack of zinc.
You see it all the time, guys with valve springs installed on flat tappet cams that have spring pressure numbers the roller cams run, all in the name of high RPM reliability, when the reality is thier cars rarely spin over 5K. More often than not these fellas are crippled before they even know it.
I'm just sayin' if one chooses a reasonable cam profile and runs cam manufacturer suggested spring pressures and does the proper break in procedure including using a ZDDP product all the time, a flat tappet cam will live a long and healthy life.
just sayin'
...
Agreed 100% on all points said there for sure. But I think 80% if not more of the guys on here have stock TTA's and are just looking for a product to toss into the yearly oil change to keep the stock flat tappet cams happy! You can't go wrong with ZDDP and off the shelf oil!
