2011 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am Reunion! Hebron, Ohio 7/30/2011

Rich there will be huge circus style tents there the BPG sets up. I'm sure we can park you under those over night if that works. The track has armed security there as well all night. The track is in the middle of the corn fields of Ohio and very safe and quiet. Some guys store their cars in their enclosed trailers over night at the track as well. The mopar nationals are there the following week with multimillion dollar cars at the track and there has never been an issue with those guys. If you need something even more enclosed then any of that, I could e-mail the track owner and ask him what else is available.

I've also recently been contacted by the owner of pilot car #4. He is hauling that in for the event as well. Looks like we'll have a nice selection of rare TTA's there!

Not wise for me to leave any of the Prototype vehicles exposed overnight. I will accept indoor storage or it will be a no show for me and the rare ones. If Jim can turn me toward indoor storage contacts for the cars, then I'll be there. It really is a shame that the event has no indoor facilities. Every top notch show I attend has some type of indoor viewing area / venue. Really disappointing in this case.

Bill Owen is going to attend! Bill designed the cross member and mounts for the torque arms for the TTA and more importantly was the main guy who took over the TTA project with help of Milt Schornack (Father of Royal Bobcat Pontiacs) and came up with using the FWD 3800 heads to mold to the 3.8 block so as to fit in the TTA! He will be there with the actual heads (prototype i believe), pictures and documentation and will speak on the 3 aspects of taking the project over (started in '85/86 with Ron Yuil and Ron Kociba-both will be speaking for us already) and then when Buick said they couldn't help out, Bill was contacted by Pontiac Engineer Tom Goad who was directly reporting to John Delorean at the time. And then made the TTA happen.

He has great stories of the 5 years it took to take the Pontiac TTA from in house special car to legend, also stories of how it was the only car since the 1950s to not need any tuning to meet the rigid standards of performance to be the Indy 500 pace car! Also running against Porsche 911s and Vettes on the west coast and being able to run 186-189mph non governed and could have been running in the Daytona 500 as in qualifying for the event. He is excited about attending and speaking and ironically was told by Jim Mattison the head guy of Pontiac Historical Services. He will also look to bring others there just to answer questions after the speakers are done.

We also per Wayne Sherman will have Tom Halka attending who was the rod and piston engineer of the 3.8 turbo block. He also has a sleeper low 13 second pristine 79 Turbo Coupe they are hoping to bring. Remember as well Wayne is hoping to bring his 86 T Type the only factory test car still remaining in existence, depending on if he can get the car tuned properly in time.

Shaping up to be a really good event in the making and the engineers are really excited about showing the enthusiasts all the details of what made these cars great, in addition making it exciting and not like a boring classroom experience. Bring those TTA's out!! It's going to be one amazing event and truly a once in a life time event that all these people will be together with the cars they labored over for us to enjoy still today! So bring those cars out and show these guys how we roll and show them the support of the TTA's!

So those guys have a chance to win as well. They did that award at the GS event there last year and there was some really bad ones that came in on a trailer. But it's all about the cars and being together once again! So we want them all to come out even if they are in pieces and don't run! Push it on a trailer and bring it on out! Someone sent me an e-mail they are driving up from Texas. The car has 300K on it! Daily driven. We will have the high mileage and the lowest mileage as well. I was looking over the categories...my car doesn't fit in. I sold the TTA convt(red) and I'm building a 1983 Trans am Daytona 500 pace car...it will be powered by a a TTA engine trans etc...I don't think it will be ready as I was kicking around the Idea of a manual trans in the car.

Sorry but my first love is the 83 Daytona 500 pace car followed by the 89TTA...I gues I'll be the redhead step child there...oh well

Get that Buick Turbo 6 in there and bring it on up! There is also a car show for other Buick's as well. Or just come hang out and enjoy the fun! :thumbup:

as Jim said Mopar Nats are held there every year,,,for the GSX Reunion we had over 90 GSX's including the prototype that stayed at the track in their trailers with zero issues...
 
I think we need to start a thread on a guess on how many TTA's will be present at the reunion. I'll make a prize for the winner. What do ya think? :)
 
I have had a room at the Hampton booked since last November - but didn't have a code - so they don't know that I'm with the TTA reunion group. If I missed out on a hotel discount rate, I can live with it...

Starting on Friday night, I'll probably want to coordinate with the TTA group for meals, maybe do some cruising and definitely want to be in the car display and watch some racing.

I have been suffering from information overload on the BPG site. Should I be registering with somebody? Is there a fee (other than drag strip fees) that I need to pay? Does somebody have a "welcome" package? Do I have to join BPG?

Please simplify this for me if you can. Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob, Every year they slip a piece of paper under the door your last night at that hotel asking you if you want to come back next year for the same event. If you filled that out you should be fine. I would call the hotel during normal business hours and double check for sure. It's been long sold out since Jan. If not you can always get on the list if anyone cancels in the days coming up to the event you might be able to sneak a room. I've done this in past years and always nabbed a room the week before.

Every night will be a cruise night at the Ruby Tuesday. If you come out of the host hotel parking lot and make a right it's just down the road on the left. Everyone kinda parks and hangs out there. Keep checking the board here for any and all last second and day of information. We'll make a thread here for each day of the event.

You can buy all your tickets day of if you like. You can even buy all your tickets for the weekend when you get to the track. They will have a tent there for registration. The BPG is a great group of guys and if you join you will save a little on registration fee's. You would have to weigh it out. I personally try to join all these groups just to keep them going. As these cars dwindle away over the years the interest in these car clubs and groups drop. So I do my part to keep them alive when I can. They have been doing this event for years now so the BPG has their stuff together. We will most likely have some sessions with Scott Kelly and the Buick guys on Friday as well. That too you can stay tuned to the forum here and we'll also have a schedule of events coming out before the event gets here.

The biggest thing is to get out there and promote this event to any and all TTA owners you can find! I highly doubt an event like this for these cars will ever happen again. Now is the time to be a part of it for sure! Spread the word and reach out to every TTA owner you can find. It's going to be history in the making that's for sure! :cheers:
 
Thanks for the summary Jim. Looks like I'm Ok. All I have to do is show up and go with the flow. All 2 of my TTA friends already know about the reunion. My GN friends are just as interested. So there will be a good crowd.

Just buy your tickets at the gate. It is cheaper to do it that way as well if you do the math.

All you need to do is show up at the track when you want and you are set!
