Hi guys, I am having a problem with the headlights on my TTA.. I have been reading all the posts in the forum. Here is the problem. When I turn the switch on, I see the motor spinning, but the lights dont come up. Sometimes, if I push the light switch hard, they come up half way. Do you guys think that the repair kit for the headlights will work? If that is the problem, is it something I can do myself, or should I take it to a professional... Thanks again.
 
As long as the motor spins, the motor should be working.

When I first got my TTA I has headlight problems also. At first they would go up but they would not go down, so I replaced the switch and that cured that problem

So time went by and the passanger side one would go half way up and not fully extend, I heard the motor spinning, so I knew it was not the motor.

By design the headlight motor assy. has pellets in it that wear out over time, so they need replacing.

So I got the deluxe headlight repair kit from topdownsolutions.com, it came with the instructions and everything you need to rebuild both headlight motor assemblys..

I only rebuilt the passanger side, and that was the only one I needed done. Follow the instructions and it was a relative easy task. If you got a problem you can always e-mail Lon at topdownsolutions.com.

This is what was wrong with mine and it maybe the same with yours, those pellets that extend and bring the buckets back down do wear out.

It all depends.. Sometimes one goes up, and other times, they both stay down.. Mike thanks for the information. I will look into buying on of those kits.. I hear and see the top of the motors spinning...but after a few seconds, they stop..

The questions are: 1. Can you turn the black knobs on top of the motors and get them up manually? If not then the plastic pieces in the motor assembly are dust and you need the kit. 2. If the motors did not spin, then it is most likely the switch. :cool1:
 
I did the Home Depot special on Jarreds #733 before he bought it and it went well, but then I did the kit on my new car and I would say the kit is much nicer and worth the money.

Thanks guys.. For all the replies.. When I turn the knobs, they just spin. The headlights don't move. The other day push the light switch and they both popped up!! So I am guessing I need the kit. Which kit do I need? The one for $20 or the other one? Thanks again.. Joe
 
This is a pic of the deluxe kit. Not a very good pic. with phone. But like I said earlier I repaired the pass. side headlight with this kit. So if needed I could do the driver side one.

Those 3 white plastic pieces are your problem, they are probably emulsified. You will see when you take it apart.

The second pic. is of the actuator motor gear, and that is where the 3 plastic pieces go.

Follow the enclosed instructions and be sure to clean everything really good and get the old grease out. I used air compressor air to get mine clean. Not a bad job to do. Good luck!!!

Yeah Mike I have to admit the headlights on my 733 go up and down like a champ. Fast and complete with no delay. So what ever you did is working well. My 366 has the passenger light moving up slow and incompletely. I have ordered the three bushings and will repair. I am a little lazy on this repair as 366 never drives at night and gets more oil changes than miles.... I should have gotten your home depot recipe and saved myself the shipping costs....
 
Something I did after rebuilding my light motors a few years ago was to switch to plastic headlights. I found them at Napa. I don't remember the name brand but they are a lot lighter. I like lighter!
