1981 Turbo Trans Am

I just bought a 1981 Turbo Trans Am that is supposed to be a Daytona 500 Pace Car edition. I am going to try to restore and get all decals for it.
I also would like to find our production dates, engine/trans numbers and find a window sticker/original invoice for the car. Any suggestions or leads on this would be great. I will get pictures posted in my website soon.

Hi txoutlw!
You think it's a daytona Pace Car? Check the vin, viewed thru the lower driver's side of the windshield. It should read X87. If it's W87, it's a regular Trans Am.
Good luck getting all the decals for it. So far, every repro set is off, compared to the orginial GM decals from Pontiac. NOS Trans Am decals will be very, very expensive. I have a few myself.
As for the numbers that you are asking, when you get the car, check them out! Alot of good info is right on the data plate, located on the top of the driver's side firewall (viewed by lifting the hood).
You can post here what you need, and I can give you the answers.
these cars had almost every option standard.
As for the window sticker, order a package from PHS, and let them know that you want a copy of the window sticker, which is extra $$$.
I hope this helps you out somewhat.

Let me know,

George:cool:

VIN #

The vin number that I have been given is an X8 number.
I am going to pick it up in San Diego this weekend with my trailer.

I found one website that says it has the Daytona Side Decals.
I would not know if they are the right color or not since I don't have anything to compare to...

I hope to restore to near original.
Not sure what I will do with the seats, I understand they are very hard in the pace car models and not very comfortable for daily driving.

Car has about 85,000 miles on it... They say original mileage??

Hi again TXoutlw!
The vin sounds right!
What website is it on? The door decals should be solid black. "Pontiac" decals on both the front and rear windshields, and Black "NASCAR" decals on the rear side fenders, just before the corner rear spoilers! That is, if the decal package was put on the car. Not many cars got the package installed. I have some stuff.
I use to own a 1981 NASCAR Turbo Trans Am! I love the interior the best!! I don't know what kind of driving you do, but nothing could have gotten me out of those Recaros! By far, the best seats out there! I have the top of the line (at least they were way back in 1981) recaros in my black 1981 Turbo Trans Am right now! Full electric power with stereo speakers in them! Way to much fun!

It may take awhile to get back to you, as I don't always get to a computer everyday!
How are you going back to Reno, from San Diego? Reason I ask is, I live off the 405 Fwy at the 110 Fwy, just south of Los Angeles International Airport! In a city named Lomita! I would love to check out the car on your way back, if you go that route!
Let me know!

Have a fun trip!

Later,

George
