1st Time Showing My Car In A Long Time

We have a local third saturday car show here in Jacksonville, went there and decided to show my TTA, I was the only third gen there.
Some of the pics were dark due to the evening sun.

looks good mike, could'nt see the scanmaster or alky con, did you put new emlbems on your car? i may have to break dowm and buy some, makes a big difference. i'm sure your glad to get it back! :cowboy:

Alkycontrol panel is on lower dash, left of the steering wheel.
Scanmaster I will be getting soon. As far as the emblems go all
are original except for the one on the hood and the 2 sail panels.

The 160 degree thermostat was put on, what a difference on a hot day it makes.

No engine issues now, it is running fine, just hopes it stays that way.

I am surprised I ran into a couple of people at the show and they were really knowledgable of these cars. Especially of the history.

wow no scanmaster,thats like going on a long trip without a cell phone, you will understand when you get one. we have a show every second sat here at the bowling ally, lot of nice cars in this little town , hope to take both of mine to the next one ,still working on the int of the 79, got to get busy :aggressive:

yeah, the scanmaster dont lie, it gives you real data, not what someone thinks you want to hear, its the basis you need to tune that new motor! :thumbup:

I got a scanmaster ordered from Eric, hope to get it here this week.
It would be great if you could take pics of the way you have yours wired up.:cheers:

no problem, i'll post some later today. it is simple to hook up, the hardest thing is deciding where to mount it :read:
 
Nice Mike, glad you got your car out on the roads !!!

Second (or third) the scanmaster :-)

Here's some photos how I installed mine ... wiring is straight forward just tap into the ALDL connector (I soldered the wire onto the correct ALDL pin in the back so I can still connect TurboLink if needed).

Thanks Jan, Just trying to get some ideas where to mount it and be able to see it as well as use it.

looks good jan, i like it there, just might move mine, btw, the scanmaster is so light you can use velcro to mount it , i have to pull pretty hard to get mine off :cheers:
 
I have my Scanmaster mounted the same place as Jan. I just did velcro there to hold it in place. If your good with a soldering iron you could always extend the wires from it as I did. I ran a new wire along the top of the dash towards the door and snuck in there to go under the dash. There are 3 wires. Power, Ground, and ALDL connector. When looking at the ALDL plug under the dash top row second hole over from the left is where you plug the scan master wire. They are a must on these cars that's for sure!

I thought about velcro as many do just install it that way but then I thought about running the cables down back behind the cluster etc and I did have a spare "cover" so just drilled a hole to get the cables down there nicely and out of the way (I did replace the original cables from the PCB with a nice 3 wire cable thin enough to sneak down behind the cluster etc.

And one thing led to another so got myself a replacement plastic housing for the scanmaster (they are cheap if you know where to get them) adn just turned the housing upside down and drilled the two holes to mount it permanetly to the whole things as in the picture.

One thing I still have to do is to install a 3 pin connector back there so I can remove the whole thing easily and just unplug it, at the moment the cable from the scanmaster runs all the way down to the ALDL connector, ground etc. So like to be able to just pull a plug behind the instrument cluser somewhere to easily be able to remove it.

So having said all that, velcro is not a bad option :yes:

Key thing for me to get it in an easy to read "eysight/line" place where the sun etc would not make it hard to read.
 
I think I will go with the location Jan showed in the pic and use velcro and maybe use a little emblem adhesive on the back of the velcro so it don't come off in the heat.
 
The connector works great too. For both of my GN's I actually made a plug and play harness under the dash with some molex connectors. I can pop the ScanMaster in and out of those cars in 2 seconds. I was going to use it on the TTA as well but I don't drive it much so the Velcro under the dash works for now :)
 
Got the Scanmaster installed, it was an easy setup.
I mounted it with velcro on the lower right side of the steering wheel, on the lower panel.

Removed the bottom panel and ran my wires underneath the panel, so no wires are showing. All the readings seem to be in the normal range, with no malfunctions.:beach:

thats were i put mine for a quick simple hook-up, and its out of the way of most controls :beee:
