200-4R

Ok, please dont hate me, But i have a 1989 V8 Firebird and i have just bought a 200-4R for my car.
Now it is not from a Turbo Trans AM, and I was wondering if anyone of you guys could tell, or show me know GM mounted the torque arm to the transmission.
Any help you be awesome, because I have no idea what to do.
Thank you for your time.

The 200R doesn't have provisions for a torque arm on the tailshaft ext. housing like the 700R does. Instead it mounts on the crossmember in the clamshell.

www.spohn.net has crossmembers for using a 200R in any 3rd gen F car.

Now, I'm not sure your'e aware, but it's my understanding that just about all of the 200R4's have a BOP case and will not bolt up to the small/big block chevy pattern.
There are suppose to be some that have a "uni-case" that have both SBC and BOP bellhousing patterns, but these are rare and came in some strange Caprice application.

..

yes my 200-4R has the dual bell housing bolt pattern for Small Block Chevy, C-BOP, and V6 GM.

Secondly, I already have a 700-R4 in my Firebird, and with the 2.73:1 gear set in my rear end, the RPM drop between first and second gear is way to much for me to take everytime I see a Mustang or a Camaro. I like my 700-R4 (altho it did have to replace the trans with one from a Astro van), and it would almost be worth putting a T-5 into my Firebird, but i alteast want to use this 200-4R and see how much I like it.
Besides, how many people have put a 200-4R behind a Small Block V8?

And just the sake of asking, why did GM put the 200-4R behind the Turbo'd 3.8 in the Trans AM and not the 700-R4? Because a V6 700-R4, I am fair sure, shares the same bellhousing bolt pattern as the 200-4R.

I dunno...I see your problem being the 2.73 gearset.

Get a set of 3.42s and you might fall in love with your 700R

GM never made a 700 r4 with a BOP bolt patern. to use the 200 you will need a longer drive shaft and your best bet is to go to a Spohn crossmember for a TTA. would be cheaper to fing a used 3.23 or 3.42 axel. IMHO
