310 mile TTA on the bay

1. Did we discuss this car in another thread? I can't find it
2. Looks like the arial is broken or stuck in the up position about one inch.
 
yes, this is the same one that was listed last week in another thread that was a low mileage festival car and Jan said it was due to an electrical problem when new.
 
Seems shady.......I'm wondering why the alleged first guy really backed out. Something is not matching up for the miles and price. I'd be going over that car with a fine tooth comb and doing alot of investigating. Just my $.02
 
Yeah that is just it. I would think that the price is great but if there is a hidden electrical gremlin that could render the car useless for basic driving purposes. Also if the mechanics back in 1989 could not figure it out I doubt I could figure it out ever!! I had a short in a car that drove me batty the fuel pump kept failing and it was a fusible link by the battery.

Looks like a great car but I would not go near a possible electrical gremlin. I much prefer a mechanical breakdown where a broken part is identified and fixed or replaced. Much easier.

We did discuss it somewhere else.

The signout sheet from Indy got it down being assigned to someone to use between 4/19-4/22 then the planned use in May been crossed out and it just says Electrical Problems ...

I'm sure the issues were sorted out before this one were sold to a GM employee ... and as far as I know when that person sold it the car still had the 300 and some miles on the clock but I'm not sure exactly how long that original owner kept the car.
 
The car is a good deal if all electrical problems have been solved but how do you determine that? Electrical issues are often intermittent and that is what makes them annoying ind tough to deal with. one moment you have a problem, take it to the shop and they can't re-create the problem. They send you home and then two days later BAMM problem again....
If there was thousands of miles on the car AFTER the electrical problem it would be safe to assume it was resolved, but with such low mileage how can you be sure?
I hate that sort of thing.

It was most likely something simple, think about it, not many people know how to work on them now, much less in 1989.
 
If the car runs and drives, I am sure the issue was resolved. The electrical system in these cars is not that complex since there are not many bells and whistles like newer cars have.
 
Now at 27,950 ,is a steal IMO !!!! Seller clearly wants to move it coming down in price that rapidly.
 
Guys,

I just purchased the car from Ebay. It is a legitimate 310 mile car mostly owned by an older guy who passed away and was sold in his estate.

My test drive of the car before I bought it had the car running and driving perfect....the inoperative electric antenna shown in the Ebay pictures was just replaced by the seller before I bought the car...and he also just installed a new electric fuel pump.

I added this to my garage to join my 545 mile TTA I bought back from Jerry L. Allen in Tennessee back last April...so I now have a leather interior 545 mile car....and a 310 mile car with cloth interior.

Jerry, congrats on a really nice purchase ... and will look great next to your leather combo one :-)

I'm curious to know if you got all the documentation with it that the original GM employee acquired and passed on when he sold it originally ... PM me and we can have a chat about it .... and I got some documents you will be interested in; one being the Indy 500 sign out sheet for the car mentioned earlier in this thread.

Again congrats on your new addition !

Thanks for the note...I would love to get whatever history documentation you could offer.

There was no documentation with the car...other than I did get the owner's manual and the commemorative owner's box.

The history of the car as outlined by the seller of the car to me is:


William Stinger purchased three TTAs from Grossinger Pontiac in Skokie, Illionois on 4-13-1989. Mrs. Stinger said her husband trailered this car to Indy and then stored the car indoors for years. Mrs. Stinger sold the car to Randy Young after her husband died. Randy Young then sold the car to Donald McClain on 8-14-2006...and my selling dealer purchased the car from Mr. McClain's estate after he died about a year ago.

There is no mention of electrical issues....and some confusion on whether it was an actual festival car at Indy. Do you have any information that would help document the car's history? Jerry Kircher [email protected]

Congrats on the purchase !!!! If you're looking to add an ultra low mile GN to that collection , let me know .
