37K Reserve not met

Just saw a 440mile TTA bid up to $37,100 on ebay but did not hit reserve! That's the highest one I've seen. There is no denying that they are finally getting recognized as super cars of their time.
 
On Ebay I bet his buddy is bidding it up, why do you think the reserve isn't met??? So a real bidder comes along and meets the reserve and has to buy the car....
 
At least 80% of cars on eBay do not meet reserve. I tend to think that they are not all illegally being shill bidded. A "real bidder" should not bid over what he is wanting to pay for a car anyways. That goes for eBay or ANY other auction. People are buying Turbo Trans Ams for more than they used to... that's a fact based on real cars changing hands to real buyers. And they should when a any new High Performance car costs $40k-60k a super low mileage (new) TTA at 25Kor30K is a freakin' bargain.
 
Ebay drives me nuts with the whole "reserve" thing. Why can't people just put the low end $$ amount of what they feel they must get for the car, then have no reserve??!

A couple reasons, one it allows the seller to gauge true market value without selling short. And it adds bid activity to an otherwise stagnant auction.

I've been bidding on trucks for about 2 months now and the the ones with reserves and low opening bids always get 10-16 bids, whereas the "start it where I want it" auctions get 0 bids. Mind you, these same trucks list over and over again too, so I see it first hand on any particular truck. And bidders seem to be skiddish about an auction that has 0 bids.They think something is wrong that they have overlooked.

I like it as a bidder because it brings un realistic sellers back down to earth usually by the 3rd time listed.And it also keeps the tire kickers away because they're afraid of actually breaking reserve and having to follow through.

The folks that start where they want their price to be may not get 16 bids (from their buddies), but when they get one or two bids the vehicle is actually sold, and doesn't keep showing up again...as the 440ml TTA!

Most Ebay is B.S. The auction ends the car is supposed to be sold and is relisted next week. No one outbid his friend! Look at completed items 1st, then check the listings. I getting good at seeing the B.S.
 
I sell lots of stuff on eBay and have about a 90% actual sale rate. It's a strategy to get a sale... not necessarily the highest price every single time- but Sold and I made money. IF I were gonna sell my TTA I'd list it on a Buy it Now for current (real) value (no BS) and be done with it. Prices are pretty stable on these cars valued on condition. I'd put my phone number and encourage people to call and ask me anything. Most Buy it Now TTAs I've seen on eBay are just a few thousand to high (in my opinion). Everybody wants to think they got a bargain.
