Ok, ive been on hear for almost a year .
I havea tta, been looking for a 87GN.
I found one , 14000 orig miles , orig paint , orig docs from new, including orig window sticker, 2 owner , orig tires , orig paint, hardtop,
Trunk trim package.
The paint looks great on diff angles, the interior beautiful ,
Engine has a kn filter , and a chrome tube from the air cleaner to the turbo,
Leading me to believe it was beat on new wires , new shocks
I now how easy it was to turn off speedo in the 80s cars, and just plug em back in when u felt like it! The guy was asking 29,995
(Ebay) but after some negotiation i was able to get down to
22,500 and could still get it lower , i dont wanna pull trigger till i hear from some members opinions! I posted in TB .com but no response!
Since im a member and have a tta i figured i could get help here ! And feel pretty comfortable!!! Thanks guys and girls!
 
If you post in the lounge section on TB.com you will have better luck (maybe) on replies, what part of N.C is it? I will be going to Greensboro next weekend, 85 north from GA. If i had to guess Jim (phillysix) would know the most on this forum about GN's...
 
Very easy to disco the speedometer, the connect is right below the brake fluid resourvior. Youll see a cable with a male/female connection, all you had to do was unscrew it. When car would come in for service, technicians were told to glue the connection together with loctite, so inspect the connection for signs that vice grips were used to disconnect it. The connection just has ribs on it like a water hose connection.
With only 14k miles the engine compartment should be spotless as well as the tops and inside the frame rails underneath.
 
I've been looking for a nice clean GN too. I'd say that 22K is about right the way these cars are holding value. That said it's just a little more than I would be willing to pay. I'd probably go 20K and I know I'd run a carfax on it! At least if there are any issues you can rule the car out. Last summer I missed on a 5k car for 22K I thought that was a fair price, but too low of mileage to enjoy. There's plenty to go around:bye1:

they are just cars drivem! my dad has a 13k mile GN hard top astroroof .. first an only time i took it 1 pass was 11.89 with a te44 an precision stock intercooler

I don't profess to be any expert, but I looked for months before buying our car, and have been quasi-active with the local club (MAGNA) here for about 3 years now. There are a couple of very knowledgeable guys here that helped me a lot.
That is pretty low miles for what you usually see for sale... except the really high-priced cars. How sure can you be about the mileage? My car (23K when I got it in 09) had the car fax report that showed the mileage progression... and the condition seemed right. My car was in Rochester/Buffalo area - shows "surface rust" on everything underneath that didn't have a good factory finish.
If everything is "right" with the car, the price seems about OK to me. Nice looking original paint cars don't seem very common.
Also depends on what you want...if you are going to mod it and rack up the miles - you could probably find something for a lot le$$.

If you have a keen eye,you can compare condition to what the odo says,when I was looking for a TTA,I went to see a 10k mile car,YUK!!!!! Poorly taken care of,OR had more like 40k ish,so I questioned the 10k.Eng bay was cruddy,things hanging loosely,orig exhaust gone,very cracked driv seat,etc,etc,NTM,they wouldn't move off the price.
Then I found mine,15k orig miles,dead orig except tires,never modded,exhaust never touched,mint driv seat,spotless undercarriage,mint eng compartment,could'nt be happier with the find,so wouldn't even question the miles,besides,a carfax shows the miles going up slowly over the first four owners.
I bought my GN in 91 w/49k miles,appeared to be garaged it's whole life,and still is,very clean eng bay,bottom,etc.22 years later @ 81k miles,the eng bay looks the same way,if I covered the odo,it could pass for a 20-30k mile car.It's all in how something is taken care of.
Spending that kind of money,and with it being easy to stop the odo,a inperson inspection would be the thing to do,and as said,you can tell if it is a 14k mile car or not.$22k,could'nt tell you if that's a good deal or not,don't really follow them to closely for values like I did with the TTA's.But it is funny that at that price with 14k miles,for a car that they made 20,197 of,is over it's orig window sticker,yet TTA's struggle to get anywhere near their orig window stickers,if not make it at all. ???????
 
I've had my 87GN T-Top listed forsale since last Fall @ $22,900.00 CDN. It has 34,000 miles on it and is an original paint car except for a blow in around the passenger side opera window. Every time I see a similar GN at Carlisle or on the net forsale they are always around the same money, really have not seen many in better condition. Original paint cars always look a little down, the GM paint quality of the day was poor.
I'm not sure what people are expecting when they are looking for any muscle car let alone a GN or TTA. I find the cheapskates will usually end up with a roach of a car that will cost them double to restore and be eventually worth half that of a good original. I've seen it happen too many times that a guy will try and save a few dollars on the cheapest car he can, but usually ends up buried in it.
I bought my GN back when the market was up a bit, so I'll just have to wait it out. These cars will come up in value as will the TTA's, but not much seems to be moving that fast right now.
GN's have been $18,500 to $24,000 depending on condition for a lot of years. It's not worth buying a tough one at $12 to $14K when for a few dollars more you can have a good example.

Your GN is the perfect example that should be priced around 18K. That's assuming that it is really really clean. There are enough of these cars out there with low mileage in orignal condition. IMHO 22K will buy you a car with way less then 34K miles. The fact is if it is priced right it will sell. If it's sitting around it's too much money. I just passed on a 30K mile car that actually sold for 18K one owner. He was asking 20K had a lot of lookers, but only one buyer.

This is probably true in this market(U.S.), but I'll hold on to it rather than loose money & sell off one of my other cars. Given the fact that my GN is already imported to Canada and our prices are a little higher than those in the U.S. and our economy is a little stronger, the $22K Canadian range asking is probably about right, but the car will not sell quickly at that level & I know it. $18K US with exchange, tax & transportation works out to $22K in a hurry if you want one here. If I had a little more room on the car & could drop it to $20K or slightly less it would have already been sold.

For a lot of Canadian buyers, they always seem to forget about the real costs of buying a U.S. car
18K US = approx $18.5 K CDN right now after exchange
Fed tax= $19.8
Excise tax + $100.00
Ont tax on everything $21508
Add in at least $1000.00 expenses to get the car home
$22508 CDN
Add is $500.00 to safety the car, fluid changes & anything minor that you missed
$23K

I would think $18K US is about the low water mark for a good low mileage GN, so it's pretty tough to get one landed at home for under $22.5K
I think I'll stay on my price and in the meantime I have a pretty nice car in the garage. :)

So true lol ! You know, you gotta love ankle biter low ballers though, the guys that are always out for the perfect low priced deal of a life time. Great if you can trip across it, but in the mean time the rest of us are enjoying our cars and, meh, if one happens to sell, so be it. :burnrubber:
