89 TTA Wheel lock, OEM?

Hello all,

I needed some assistance for a quick question, was hoping that it would be an easy one for the experts here....

Going in for my first tire change on my TTA after owning her for 1.5 yrs, and stop, do not pass go, the wheel nut has a special fitting on it vs the standard fitting. 1 lug on each of the 4 wheels to prevent theft. I am assuming this is a stock OEM wheel lug locking mechanism? Does anyone know where I can get the special fitting? Can I buy these or do I have to go to GM or nervous about having the lock broken off by a pro.

Sorry, I know you asked me about this via text, but I forgot all about it. I can check to see if I have mine in the TTA I brought home this weekend. I am not sure if they are all the same though, like you asked in your post. Louie would know most likely, maybe he can chime in.

My car has the dealer option wheel locks, they are are McGard I believe. I forgot the key when I had tires replaced and they took two off the hard way. There is little to no risk of damage to the wheel or car.

New sets can be purchased from GM or places like Pep Boys.

Our cars came with the wheel locks from the factory then the dealer installed them before delivery.

AMCOR is the manufacturer More About Our Wheel Locks ... part no 057

See if you have the documentation (small paper tag) with the key code needed and you can order a new one from AMCOR direct. Otherwise call Amcor at (800) 831-9604 or (313) 458-8920. Tell them your problem and they will refer you to a GM dealer who has a master set of wheel lock keys.

I know people used a high quality socket (12 point I think) and just hammer it on there to get them loose but don't tell anyone lol.

There are universal wheel lock sockets.....not ideal but they work

I just checked the car I have and it does not have wheel locks, so I have no key for that one. My other car has one, but it is not accessible right now.

Stock GM wheel locks will have a color painted on top of key, There's not that many variations. Pontiac dealers had a kit with all different locks so If you had your car serviced and forgot key, they could easily remove them.
Those kits are long gone. If you just want to get them off the only other way is go to Autozone etc buy a deep well socket, you'll need to place it on wheel lock very centered, then hammer it on at least 1/2 inch, then turn lock with wratchet handle. You'll need (4) sockets or after each one removed you'll have to remove lock from socket, that's a PITA...
