9 bolt carrier

I have a chance to get a NOS 9 bolt carrier for $500. Is this a good deal? I hear the cones on the originals go bad and whine.

That the one on eBay? The originals do go bad over time if you race the car. If you race yours it might be worth while but then again it's going to go bad in a short amount of time as well. One of the weak parts of the drive-train!

Mine's actually acting ok. I figured it's something that may go bad down the line. I don't race routinely but do step into it occasionally. If I replace the cones and the spider gears (in the future if it goes bad someday), I'm coming close to $350 already.

I heard that the bearing, shim and seal kits are hard to find. I would see if you can get the rebuild kit before spending money on the carrier. that said I am in favor of having spares for a 21 year old car...

I got a NOS carrier plus a ring and pinion for $650, so to me $500 doesn't seem too far out of line..
