A/C Charge Question

This is FNG again.... Everything is working, but the A/C just ain't up to snuff. I added a can of R-12 and it got better. I thought, well if I add some more it might be right. I added about half of the other can, and I think it's worse now. It's about 85 degrees outside, and when I quite the low pressure gauge was bouncing around the 70 psi mark. Does anybody know the correct pressure it should show on the low pressure gauge at this temperature?

Well the fans are running, the compressor is kicked in and running, I lowered the low pressure to 32 psi., and the coldest the gauge will show is 85. That's out of the middle vent, and I even tried running it down the highway a ways to see if cooling it off going down the road would help. The engine temp is steady at about 165. It's 92 degrees out. Anybody got any ideas? I expect a GM car to get down to about 55 or so at the middle vent. I tried using the max and the normal, which I know the max is just recirculating the inside air versus normal taking in outside air, and it's a little cooler on max. I'm beginning to start pulling hair out of my head.... Please help???:bash:

You may have some trash or something in the system if you are not loosing freon and the compressor is running. Haven't had to do anything on my TTA AC wise, but with other cars there is usually an orifice of sorts in the system that I have had clogged before, maybe some others will chime in with more precise info on it if there is one on the TTA system somewhere, more than likely will require a licensed tech to remove and then reinstall the R12 in order to take it apart and fix.

As far as pressure goes on the low pressure side, it should be somewhere between 35 psi to 42 psi. Not more than 45 psi. Too much pressure and the compressor and system will not work efficiently.

Thanks for all the advice from my new TTA friends.... The A/C problem is put to bed. I noticed this morning that it was blowing hotter air, in Vent mode, then the outside temperature. Dropped the r/s close out panel and found the temperature control cable twisted up, not allowing the door to close all the way to shut out the heat from heater core. I now have air coming out of the center vent at 41 degrees with it being 88 degrees outside. Talk about somebody having their head up their rear end.... I spent 30 years working at GM and have fixed quite a few of HVAC control cables, and it happens to me, and I'm in another world. Anyway, my new TTA is perfect now, and I appreciate all the help from my new forum friends.
