A National TTA gathering?

So after seeing the pictures from the Dallas TTA gathering that Jan organized while he was there I got to thinking, we should do a TTA reunion. Now we could do this in 2008 since we want to get together as soon as we can while it's fresh on our minds, or we could do something in 2009 for a 20th anniv of the 20th anniv. Now what I was thinking was we could do it in conjunction with another National event, it's just easier to do it that way when you're working with a small crowd. Unfortunatly I don't think the Trans Am Nationals will really work with us if we're wanting to do it in 2008, they might be a little more willing in 2009 but they don't normally do special classes for people (I know they don't like the Knight Rider guys and I'm guessing they wouldn't let the Firehawk guys do their own class which is why they're at the Pontiac Nationals now).

So some of the shows that I was thinking of is:
Great Lakes Regional Firebird Gathering - This is a smaller show and I know they'd be more than willing to work with us. The show is a lot of fun with true diehard Firebird guys. The bad part about this show is that it's way up in Michigan which just adds driving time for everybody.

Pontiac Nationals - I'm sure Ames Performance will be happy to work with us, they did an anniversary reunion of the CanAm cars this year and they always have a section devoted for the Firehawk guys. The show is extremely well run and probably one of the most fun and exciting shows I've ever been to with lots of stuff to do. Another positive thing is if we wanted to show up a little early we could go to Cedar Point for a day as a group or something and rife rollercoasters but I don't know how that would sit with some of you old fogees :sick:.

Trans Am Nationals - I don't know if they'll be willing to work with us or not. But they have had a 20th Anniv class once before, and maybe we can convince them to do all the anniversary classes again in 2009 as a 40th Anniversary of the Trans Am tribute or something. The bad of this show is that it's getting a little big for the location (although I haven't been in a couple years) and the show seems a little political (but that's just my opinion)

So those are the shows that I'm really familiar with, I'm open to suggestions from stuff out in MA, PA, OK, MO, etc. Lets try to keep it in the midwest though because that's where the highest concentration of TTAs are at (sorry George). So lets get this figured out and find somebody that we can tag our gathering onto and start getting things set up. I want to see 30+ TTAs in one location. I think the most I have seen together in person is 5 or 6.
 
I'm definatly in for a get together. I think the Trans Am nationals would be the place to do it in 2009, to celebrate to the 40th anniversary of the Trans AM and the TTA's 20 year mark. The Pontiac nationals sounds good too though. Either way I'm in :)

I participated in the Can am reunion at the Ames Pontiac nationals and I can tell you first hand that Pete and Andi gave us everything we asked for to pull off the 30th anniversary of the Can ams.They gave us great real estate,allowed us to park our tow vehicles close by, allowed our obnoxious tents to be set up with the Can ams. They were great. They even gave us a special division for judged showing so we didn't have to compete with anything other than Can ams. By far the best show I've ever had my Can am at.
 
You'll be out of school by then Jason! I would be in. I tried to do this when I first got my car. The thing that sucks with the TTA's is they are not like GNs'. Most of the GN's sold were all out here on the east coast. On a normal day I'll pass or see 2 or more turbo Buicks just driving around local roads. The TTA's were scattered all over the country. So it's hard to get more then 4 together in one spot it seems. I would be down if I had enough notice. I'll go out and buy a trailer if it would turn out to be a big event with a good number of people going. We are a closer tighter community then the turbo Buick people so it would be an awesome time I'm sure. I hardly ever get to talk TTA's in person with anyone around here! So keep us informed Jared! Set it all up!
 
We're definatley going to make sure that there is enough notice. I think we're gunna hold off until 2009 though because I'd like to make sure we make an official TTA hotel, that would be badass 20+ TTAs in the same hotel. So everyone keep posting ideas of where you'd want to go. We can also do our own thing I just don't think it would turn out too well. Plus we could probably get a little magazine coverage if we stick to one of the main shows.
 
Jared, post a thread with all the 2009 Pontiac summer events, dates, and locations. Then maybe we can take a serious poll or something and decide on that.

I know that 2009 info isnt out yet but it will be soon enough I assume.
 
THis is something we discussed while in Dallas, a gathering for the 20th year of the TTA ... Indy would be really cool to do it at I know the Camaro club done it at iIndy more than once.

I would defenitly be there (without the car needless to say) and also help in anyway I can. I would be happy to present some of the history along with memoribilia etc at the event.

Piggybacking onto an existing event would be the best of course given the logistics to put on our own event ....
 
I would be in for this too. Lets see what the '09 event schedule looks like and go from there. I prefer the T/A Nats as I go every other year and that would be my "Go" year. Plus I might be able to arrange a place to stay for little or no charge. My buddies and I Stay with this guy and his family near Dayton. He's from the poncho board and has a pontiac gathering at his place for the nationals weekend. people with T/A's come and camp on his 5 acres. He and his wife are vary
hospitable, it's a blast! The Indy thing sounds intriguing as well. Another reason I mention the T/A Nats is because not only will it be 20 years since the TTA ( man it's been that long?) and the T/A 40th, but also the Nats 25th anniversary. So '09 will be a vary special year for the T/A. Now only if Pontiac would bring it back, then that would be the icing on the 40th birthday cake!!!!!!
 
Well, I'm sure GM will have some kind of 40th Anniversary of the Trans Am event. They did for the 40th Anniversary of the Camaro and Firebird just this last month.

I don't know, it may be in the works. We might start checking out regular Trans Am websites and see if anyone is talking about it.

There is a lady here in Dallas that is heavily involved in the F-Body society. She heads up the Texas F-Body Association and she has a good working relationship with Scott "Fbodfather" Settlemire. I'll check with her and see if anything is on the drawing boards.
 
I would love to do a reunion in Indy, unfortunately the only 3 shows that I have known of down there to tag onto are dead now. It would have been nice to do it at the pace car reunion.

However if we did this around the Trans Am Nationals we could organize a day around going to Indy also, I think it's about a 2 hour drive from Dayton to Indy. So we could set it up where we go to Indy on Thursday and spend the night there just go out and do a bunch of stuff together (there's a great go-kart place and lots of other stuff to do) and then stay in Indy for the night. Then on Friday we could leave whenever and go out to the TA Nats and get stuff set up and everything. Then the show for the rest of the weekend and just seperate from there on Sunday night/ Monday morning and head back home.

I sent an email to Sue who runs the TA Nats this morning about possibly doing this for 2009. I told her I know it's a little far in advance but we would like to try to get things worked out since some of the people need to know about a year in advance since we have guys coming from as far as the UK.

Yeah I almost went to that show this year. Unfrotunately though I don't think they'll do it again like that for the 40th Anniv of the TA just because all it is is the TA. The show they did this year was the 40th of the F-body so it was all Camaro, Firebird, and TAs there. I think if anyone were to do anything special for the 40th Anniv of the TA it would probably be the Trans Am Nationals. It's a tough crowd to really bring together and most people just do one big show a year and most of them make that show the TA Nats. There have been a lot of smaller national TA shows that have spawned in the last couple years but they're always struggling to keep going.
 
I'd be in, 2009 would be really cool and to do it at the TA Nats..since I have 4 TA's currently :)
The Dallas GTG with Jan was great..and there were 2 others in the area that couldn't make it or we would have had 6 TTAs together.

She said that she hasn't heard anything, but has been wondering herself. She also said that Schoot Settlemire worked for Chevrolet, not Pontiac, so he wouldn't know anythig either.
 
Sounds like fun. Maybe at the time or near a Buick GN event. They pull as many TTAs out as Firebird events. Buick guys seem to take to them better than F-body folks. I got more genuine and educated interest from GN crowd than at the F-body gathering last year held at The Corvette Museum (which has been cancelled this year:censor: ) Most of them were into the v8 Chevy stuff, which was cool too, but the lil v6 would hang with or best 85% of what the v8 chevys would do. (funny that after the show only about 5 or 6 of the crowd went to Beach Bend Dragway to actually drive them) A 30th anniversary TA went to the drag strip and squeezed a 13.80...a good time,but not TTA fast...A super beautiful car though. Anyway...I want to go to a TTA event some day.:cowboy:

With all that falling on one year the TA Nats sounds like the place to do it, and like 72firebird said it's close enough to Indy to make a trip of it.
 
Would love to attend SOMETHING but it should be tied in to a big event,

the GS national's are in the middle May and there are always ahalf a doz or so there, if we talk to Richard Laster of the GSCA I'm sure he would bewilling to something SPECIAL!!!!!!!!!!!! for these very RARE BIRDS!!!!!!!

I know this may seem wrong but I would have a hard time going to a TTA reunion at a Buick show. I would say if the reunion was at a buick show and more than maybe 400 miles from me I probably wouldn't go. Just doesn't seem right, the only thing they have in common is the drivetrain. The actual history and everything else about the car is linked to Pontiac. Pontiac brought on PAS to do the conversions and they did their own engineering on the drivetrain to make it their own. If we do the reunion at a Pontiac show I'm sure High Performance Pontiac and Pontiac Enthusiast would do a nice section about it but I doubt you're going to get them to come to a Buick event. I think you're going to see an equal amount of people who will go both ways. Just my opinion, but my blood is 100% indian and I'd have a barn full of Firebirds if I could afford it (outside of the 3 my family already owns).
