A piller gauges and pods.

I would go with a boost @fuel pressure gauge connected to a PL if it where me, that and a SM will tell you what you need to know.

I have the a pillar tri...my boost gauge is a original GNX boost gauge (new) knock sensor and im planning on installing a fuel gauge...let's see how many people try to install a GNX boost now in their car.

Yeah i have a knock gauge that i never hooked up, kind of silly if you think about it... unless you like to visit graveyard's.

The point i was trying to make about the knock gauge was it's like someone yell's duck at the same time they fire a gun at you, too late.... the PL will give you knock count's and retard, and record how much and when.

What's PL? Personal laptop?
KID

Powerlogger, TT and alot of buick vendors sell them, best thing since sliced bread... it also speed's up the scanmaster, logs 18 frames per sec.

Not allowed in my neck of the woods, they would steal the laptop hooked to the power logger.ttarider

I need some too . im hooked on the sport comp II gauges they are awesome. got one in my GN and one in my duramax... need one in the tta now

I would really get a Air Fuel gauge Kid. That tells the TRUTH!!! You are just guessing with the 02's on Scanmaster.

Put the A/F gauge on the bottom of the dual pod. Mount the boost on top. Then put the Scanmaster directly to the right of the dual pod (almost touching) . Then PL... You don't have to drive around with a laptop all the time once you get the car dialed in. I just monitor A/F, boost and knock.

Once the car is dialed in... when I mash it, I look at KNOCK then back to road, then A/F gauge then back to road. Boost... Then just KNOCK and A/F numbers.

This is just what I do. Do what you want but keep your eyes on the road Kid.

$ set up but worth every penny and better than replacing a motor.

I got my boost gauge from Julio. Carbon Fiber model that does do a great job matching colors with the interior imo. This would be the match for the A/F. PLX, AEM and other are great and are cheaper if you don't care to match.

Great info. Joe! Your right it's kind of pricey. I'll have to wait and see how it goes. Spending lots of money lately.
Not sure what to get at this point. A lot more to think about then i originally thought.
Thanks a lot!

X20 on the powerlogger set up with fuel pressure input..... best advice ever given for these cars.... trust Rob...he knows what he is talking about....

You are right, you don't have to ride around with a laptop once you get it dialed in, but remember the SM will read the W.B so if you see a # other than your target A/F say 10.8-11, just hit the recall and see how bad the knock was, so you can do the same thing with one less gauge because it don't do much good to lift after the bullet has already hit it's target, just a thought...

^^^^^^
Just to clarify on the last post if you have a stock car or one with light mods a knock gauge certainly won't hurt anything @ if it makes you feel better having one go for it, i am talking about the guy's running ball's to the wall with the tune set on kill ( Joe:)) i just am not seeing the benefit, in fact i wish the fac. boost gauge was better so we wouldn't need aftermarket one's in the first place. I like the clean uncluttered look...

Dang Robert, you know all the new tech stuff. You are way ahead of me.

Yes Robert I use to baby the car thinking low boost, low timing...
Boost is just a number. BUT, if I see KNOCK, I get out of it IMMEDIATELY. Unless, I know it's traditional knock.

I get a little rich knock .5 sometimes when I mash it then it goes away. Use to get 4*, then it would go away. Adjusted the alky to come on a little later (mid boost in sd chip) and it reduced it to 0-.5 then gone.

Set mine at boost 26# , 24*/19* timing and A/F 11:3 and it doesn't knock. Runs terrific so I leave it there. Low timing up top for sure guys! Higher timing down low as you are building cylinder pressures... it's all in the tune.

Boost is just a number. TUNE! Like they say 16# boost and A/F 12:0/12.5 , OR 27# boost and A/F 10:8/11:0 Which would you prefer? No brainer.

Joe

I'm not way ahead of you or anybody else, i know just enough to be dangerous...:D I still say by the time you see knock it's a done deal, totally after the fact.

Lol. Its worse to stay into it if the knock increases. Especially when you have it mashed for 11,12 or 13 seconds. Thats when the load is the greatest up top 3rd gear. Am I wrong Robert?

But yes pre-igtion damage is almost instantaneous. Detonation can be hammed on for seconds, minutes depending on the output of the engine and the load, before any damage occurs.

My casper's knock guage got to be annoying with false knock. It would go nuts and the scanmaster would show 0 knock, so I replaced it with an AFR gauge which I like better. So I have AFR, Boost and Fuel pressure. The scanmaster will let me know if it is retarding and if I'm reading the other guages right, then I shouldn't have knock.

Sounds to me like you guys are running some HP with your cars. I'm actually de-tuning mine just a bit so I no longer have to run racing fuel to enjoy putting the hammer down. Just looking to monitor things a little better in my street car. I've been out of touch with Turbo cars since the early 90's so I have lot's to learn and re-learn
Thanks!
KID
