AC blowing hot

Fixed it but I wanted to post and see if anyone else ran into this issue. Was coming home from E town last weekend and it would blow hot air.. then cold.. then hot.. then cold.. then it stayed hot. This was over a few miles. From day one my TTA had ice cold AC. Still has the R12 in it. So I stopped by my mech. today and we trouble shot it down to the pressure switch that is on the dryer. Was dead. A in stock part at the local parts house. My mech. has a neat little test tool that sniffs out 12V and it can also supply 12V anywhere. So when he took the connector off and put 12V to the switch the compressor kicked right in. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue in their TTA. Now my car has 3 things that are not original! Tires, Battery and the pressure switch! :teehee: :whistle: :teehee: I didn't want to put her to bed for the winter knowing I had to look into the AC in the spring. One thing is for sure the AC blows ice cubes again! :cold: :cold:
 
My ride home was a warm one as well. Tried on/off a few times, but the compressor never kicked on. Didn't open the shop manual yet, but hopefully my car has the same bug yours had.
Cold AC is better than a new emblem!
 
When I got my TTA the air was cold but not real cold. My mech had a tiny bit of R12 left so he shot it in there and it turned it into an ice box. 134 can be just as cold as 12 but I'd rather keep the 12 in there if I can! :)

Lenny most times the compressor not kicking on is low R12 in the system. There is a valve next to the dryer. Take the cap off and with a jewelers screwdriver push down on the valve real quick. You should get a shot of gas come out then tap down on it again real quick and you should get a shot of freon shoot out. If you don't get any freon shoot out it's most likely out of it or really low. That is one way to make sure there is some in the system. All the cars I've had this is the first time that switch went bad. I have a great AC just north of Philly if you want to bring it down.
