Air Filter

What air filter are you guys using, those who have the original airbox? I am cleaning up the one I got at the junkyard. It seems the only difference is the bracket location. The original sticker is still on it and it states AC Delco A633C.

How about Wix? Gonna order a few, just wondered what everyone else has.

Thx.

Ok thanks.

I got it off an 88 Olds cutlass ciera cruiser station wagon. It had the 3.8 v-6 in it. They ended up crushing it a few days later, so good thing I went and got most of the good stuff off it.

Sounds like that would be the same setup as used in the GN then with the bracket on the other side of the "lid". Good find!

Why not use the K&N filter for a bit more airflow and the fact you can clean them?

Update on the air box: Removed the bracket, it was spot welded and when removed left 4 small holes. Took it to my body guy, he filled them, sanded it and primered the box. Hubby painted it satin black.

The intake area is different than the TTA as it has a slotted piece where an additional hose was used. I believe the box is identical too, just the bracket location was different.

Got some air filters from Rock Auto. It is now in storage with my ever growing TTA parts stash.

Looks nice good find,i would also use a k&N filter in the original air box.A lot of guys have that monster K&N cone filter looks nice but the only thing is sucking hot air verses the original air box.You are doing the wright thing by using the box.:eam:

I'll offer a minority opinion and suggest staying away from K&N and other oiled filters in conjunction with MAF sensors.

Yes I agree,is one of the reason of maf failure. What some of us don't realize is by having the big cone K&N filter so close to the maf sensor ,specially on a maf pipe. All the vibration causes the oil in the filter to be sucked up and contaminate the maf and all sort of problems begin.the best thing to have is to have the filter it in the original air box.that keeps engine heat away from the filter, while cold air is going thruw the air box the way it was intensually from the factory....:eam:

Don't over oil the K&N to solve those issues, doesn't take much oil at all. Make sure there is no puddling. Stock box to get the coolest air from the air passage inside the fender. You can always take just the bottom part of the canister which is the same for all similarly equiped cars and cut out an additional opening on the fender side for less restriction.
