Alky Imstructions?

My TTA already had an Alky kit on it. I noticed the tank was empty so I filled it with Mthane -M1. The red light on the pillar went out, so my question is what's next? Anyone have any instructions? Not sure if it needs to be primed or how I even use it (I'm an Alky rookie). It has a blue knob, a light, and a test button on the dash.

You can hit that test button with the car off and you should hear the pump. Or with the car on sitting in park you can press the button and the engine should idle down from the spray. The light should flicker as well when the pump is running. No priming needed.

It's a good idea to hit the test button every time you start the car, you can even do it driving, it will stumble and the o2's will shoot up on the SM. If there is a problem you will know it before going into 20+ # of boost on nothing but pump gas which will give you real problem's....:explosion:

I don't hear the pump running at all. Doesn't matter if the car is on or off, the test button doesn't turn the pump on. I see the light come when I press the button on but no pump activity....I guess I'll need to start tracing power to see what's going on. Is there a site that has installation instructions so I can see the wiring setup?

If the car stumbles when you push the test button it works; if not then no, (make sure it's running) i will try to send you the directions later today.

Unhook the wiring harness at the pump and check for voltage on the red wire when you push the test button. If the methanol tank was completely empty perhaps the pump is coming on but only pushing air as the air may not have been purged out of the line. When removing washer fluid and replacing with alky I like to hold the test button down until I see alky come out of the hose. I unhook the hose from the up pipe and aim it into a bucket. That way I know Alky is in the line and working. Remember the light MUST change from red to green when boosting!

Thanks Jarred, I'll try that tonight. Unless the pump is ultra quiet, I didn't hear any noise when pushing the test button. The system seesm to have power (control works, low level LED lights up, LED comes on when I push the test button, just no audiable indication the pump is working. I'll test for power and hope the pump ins't bad....

Yeah good call Rob, the ground wire should be checked, I didn't even think of that!

If it is a dead or seized pump Julio will rebuild it or sell you a new pump at a decent price.

Hope you get it figured out

Is it one of Julio's kits? Should have AlkyControl either on the pump or maybe the cap on the methanol tank. I forget the rebuild price he charges but was very reasonable, if running pure methanol plan to have it rebuilt every five years or so. I have been running his kit on the GN for many years. I want to say it was around $100.
Robert lee has a good point to check it every time you get in the car, something i dont always do, but so far each time my pump went bad it was still working but was leaking methanol out of the seals causing my tank to drain quickly even while sitting... It just evaporates so quickly you never see it leaking, but pump exterior would be wet immediately after testing.

Also, Julio's newer setups will have a multi colored LED, it will be red when pump turns on and will turn green once up to full pressure, a good indicator your pump is working correctly if you go full boost and it doesnt turn green then you know you are loosing pressure somewhere.... Like my leaky seal pump. He supplied to new parts last time i had the pump rebuilt as i did have an old system that just had the indicator show the system was energized.

It seems like a newer system and it was bone dry when I filled it....not sure how long would it take to pump the air out holding the test button but maybe I didn't give it enough time. What concerns me is that I didn't hear any motor running when I pushed the button.....I'll hold it in for 60 secs or so then test all the electrical connections (including the ground) and go from there. Thanks for all the help!!

Its a newer pump with the red/green LED. I powered the system, turned the blue knob to 4 (and varrying numbers) while holding the test button. I get no power to the red wire while pushing the button and no activity on the pump. Seems to be a power issue. Just need to trace power from the pump back. Anyone with installation instructions or a schematic, I would be grateful. It's a nice install with everything inside wire looms so nothing is exposed (bad b/c I cant trace anything). I see a connector at one end of the pump with 3 wires and 2 brown wires at the other end. I think Jim Dunn did the install so it should have been right.

I completely forgot about the map sensor, that's where it gets it 's signal from, no map signal no alcohol, it's on top of the a/c box, check both end's (green wire)

It was 60 and rainy yesterday so I decided to solve the "no alky" problem. The pump seems to be bad. I put 12v to the red, grounded the black, then brown and still no activity on the pump. This looks to be the same pump on the Alky website for TTAs but I thought I read the new ones have a cover. Any idea how old this pump is? Also, can someone confirm 12v to red and grounding brown/black should engage the pump.

That pump is 09' or older so it's long over due for a rebuild, i can text you Juilo's phone # if you want, super nice guy..

Julio's phone number would be great. Thanks. Should I have him rebuild this one or get the new style? I guess, Julio will know.

Julio confirmed it was a bad pump....doesn't rebuild these anymore so a new pump is on it's way ($171). He did suggest that the head of the pumps be angled down slightly to prevent water from getting in (thats what kills these things he said). If you installed your pump flat, you may want to put a nut between the 2 bolts near the head to angle it down....may add a little life to your pump.
