Some of you know my dad was involved in drag racing in the 60's and early 70's. A former member had passed away a year or so ago and his family was helping the wife clean out his garage. They found part of the original "Blue Angels" dragster in the attic. Just the molded body of it where the driver sits. The wife donated it to some guys who wanted to restore it for shows and take it around to cruise ins, etc. They have been working on it-making a frame, getting a rear axle, wheels, engines, etc.
They contacted former members and did some research. My dad asked me to go with him. This weekend was a "coming out" of sorts to show the dragster and a reunion. A prominent car collector in the area let them use his facility. We got to see the dragster and his 50+ car collection. It was an awesome place-full of old cars and memorabilia.
It was really great for my dad to see some people from his past. A lot of them are deceased but their were relatives and family of former members.
They had some old pictures, newpaper articles, etc.
Car enthusiasts are really cool people, always friendly and willing to share their cars and passion with others. It was a great time and they hope to continue with the restoration.
