Another Hatch Problem

So it was Cruising the Coast time and I'm loading up the T/A for the ride. Load up the beverages, ice chest, and luggage etc.... Close the hatch and it made an unusually load noise after closing..... I have heard alot that they don't close but this one wouldn't stop running! After the hatch closed the motor made a much louder noise and it didn't stop. I'm assuming its just going to be time to replace the whole assembly?? I have found plastic pieces broken off before. PS I did get to close and then crawled into the back and pulled the power source and enjoyed the rest to my trip.

PS Also gonna replace the hatch shocks. Anybody got parts #'s for the good ones that lift up when you press the dash button?? Thanks for any help.

I just had the same problem a few weeks ago. I got the parts from hawks third gen to fix mine. The original motor was good, so I replaced the plastic motor housing and put new slider bushing when the assy. slides up and down. Also cleaned the old blue grease off and used white lithium grease. It works great now, and was a fairly simple repair.

No need to replace the whole hatch down assy, since these can be rebuilt. It is mostly the motor housing breaking and the slider bushings wearing out.

Also while you have it apart, check the nylon motor gear and make sure it is not stripped out. I replaced mine with a GM one from Hawks.

Also replaced the hatch shocks, got a thread here somewhere with the details and part #. Me and Jan used the same ones and they work fine. I would have to look on the TTA or research since it was a while back.
