Hi, I just found this site and registered. I just bought a TTA, picked it up on New Years Day with only 5600 miles on it. Drove it home from Cali 1400 miles, now it has 7200 on it.

Welcome to the site. I am glad to see you have balanced the number of TTA's between California and Texas. I bought a Cloth Interior/T-Top car (Festival Car) in November from a guy in Houston. It had 4700 miles on it. It to is in outstanding condition. I had It shipped to Roseville Ca. (near Sacramento) at the end of November.
I have only put 50 miles on mine. Can't wait for the nice weather.

So now TTA's in California and Texas have evened out!

I thought you got it from a private owner! I was wondering if it was one of my buddies that I only see about once a year. A few of them sold their cars already, that's where I got some of my 20th TTA stuff!! I bought the ATR kit with the by-pass pipe being the only thing used in the kit! All for $40.00!!! I pulled my converter for about a year, and the car wouldn't stop doing burnouts from a standstill!!! I did a 14.8 doing a burnout 3/4's of the way down the track!!! I just couldn't take my foot off the gas, I'd never done a burnout that far!!!! In my '70 TA, it would sit forever frying the tires!! HeHe! You know, thinking about that makes me want to go do some more burnouts!!! Ha!!

Hey George, I noticed in your sig you have a convertible 79 TA?? They made a few of them or was it custom?? Have any pics? My wife would kill for one of those, she really wanted an 80 or 81 pace car TA with the big bird and the silver dash, took alot of talking to talk her into the 89 TTA, now she wants me to put a bird on it and have someone make a dash insert like the 70's dashes..hehe If she could have one in convertible she would freak, love to see it.

Oh, it was an individual I bought the car from, he was the owner of Laforza, they make some kind of custom import SUV that looks similar to a Range Rover, thought you might have heard of them..

Yep, I got a 1979 Trans Am convertible!!! It is Noturne Blue, big blue hood bird, 403 Olds engine with the automatic trans, power door locks, power windows, manual (Goddamned heavy, hard to lower by yourself dark blue) convertible) top. Worth it though, it's just too cool to cruise around in by the beach. HeHe! When I bought the car, it had a baby blue interior, but I changed it over to a black custom interior (was custom interior anyway). I bought a wrecked 1979 Trans Am just to use the interior! The car also had a 3:08 pegleg rear end installed by the orginal owner. Boy, that car could keep up with the regular 455 powered Trans Am! Oh ya, the cat was dropped, and true duals with Flowmasters put on (every little bit helps! HeHe!). The car is non-opped for now, it needs a transmission overhaul, and the orginial style cat with the one pipe put back on to pass smog! I'll have to post some pictures of her, or I'll email some to you! Do you have my book: Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 1969-1999 Photo Album? There are pictures of her in the book.
As to custom built, they all were! But only thru the Pontiac Dealers! It was not a Pontiac option! At the big P.O.C.I. Nationals, they put me (the '79 TA) into modified class!!! So here I was competeing with cars with blowers!!! Ya, like I stood a chance!!! No nothing!!!! Oh well, it gets attention!!!! That's all that matters!!!! Right?
I have heard of the Laforza, but I just didn't place it at first. I don't know that person. And to think I knew all the people with 20th's in the SoCal area (ya, right!).
Congrats again on your new ride!!!! Next time you visit the SoCal area, let me know, you both can check out my '79 TA convertible!!!

Thanks George. Do you know how many were made into convertibles for any of the 70's era TA's? I'd love to find one!
The Laforza looks kind of like a Land Rover but with a different front facia/grill. Not sure on the motor, but yea, its probably a Ford because they also do the "Monster Miata" conversion putting a Ford V8 (4.6 or a 302 not sure) into the little Miata.
 
i dont know if its the same people, but monster motorsports had a 302 monster miata conversion that's smog legal! i think you give them a miata and about $15,000 and you get back a monster miata. they also had a mega monster miata with a supercharged 302! that one costs about $50,000 though.

I was told about 40 Trans Am's per year roughly! About 200 F-Bodies per year (this includes the Camaro also). They have numbered plates on the driver's inside rear door jam. I saw a 1978 Trans Am, so I'm guessing that was the first year, but I've yet to verify it. I've seen lots of 1980 and 1981 trans am's converted, but I wanted the 403 Olds version for more power!!!
I see them in Hemmings Motor news every so often.

You lucky dog, that's the TTA I wanted. Damn, what a deal and you got everything with it too. Wish I woulda had the money at that time it would've been mine right now. Well enjoy, I know I would. Damn what a kicka** deal!
