Another TTA "collectible" question

Since we have been talking about collectibles and values, what you think is cheezy and what not:

Did anyone on here purchase the TTA tumbler set that was on ebay a few days ago? I was watching but it went too high for me-which I already knew it was going to the first day it was listed. First time I have seen a set of those on ebay.

Well I hope someone here got them and if so, congrats and when you receive them please have a celebratory drink!:cheers:
 
That's a difficult one to answer...
if you still have a wet bar in your basement I guess glasses are good??? Kinda 80's for me
The jackets, 80's again. i wouldn't wear one but I think the colors would look good on a woman...
other stuff i think is overkill but I guess If you like and want it then that's what matters. As far as paying crazy amounts for it that's the same with anything to me. It's worth what's it made of...leather, suede, gold etc...
 
The 80's are what it's all about. If you notice in general, the 80's everything (cars, TV shows, clothing, music) is becoming very popular mainstream. This is very cool because the 80's were a great time for me, I was young and having a really good time.

I dont care for the jackets either to wear, but it would look good on display with the car at a show.
 
Smiling as I had to find some stuff I had no idea where I put and had to open a number of my boxes where most of my stuff sits and found lots of interesting stuff I nearly forgot I had. Most fun was looking in some of the 1982 - 1992 dealer only catalogues, so the catalogues the dealers ordered their stuff for the showroom each year and there's some really cheesy stuff they could get for their sales guys, give-aways, posters, name tags, banners and you name it along with really dated technology in general. And just looking at the photos of the "sales guy" from back them makes you smile.

Tumbler set I picked up a long time ago and they are cool but more because I like the logo on them and the fact they are listed in the brochure of "stuff" you could buy back then ... would I use them not really. I got all sorts of old mugs, cups, shot glasses, coolers etc.

I got loads of stuff as you all know but I like the history around our cars as well and keep picking up new stuff when I find it. Sometimes I pick up duplicates just because I forgot I had one already and once in a while I try to part with some stuff to cover the cost of other stuff I bought or will be buying.

But would never walk around looking like I still live in the 80's ... however I do use my RayBan's once in a while that are period correct lol.
 
I collect diecasts and old magazines that feature the cars that I'm into. I'd pick up some of the so called cheezy stuff if it was a really good deal. I like a lot of the TTA memorabilia like the press photos. Glasses would be cool if I found them on the cheap. Here's a pic. of some original test drive magazines from 69 that feature Bee's. I've been into these for a very long time.

Now that was funny!! Hey, just go to an 80's hair band concert these days...there's lots of folks that look like they are still stuck there!....Was just at a Y&T concert last week :)

Never got any of them, just too much $$$$ for what they are ... PAS never produced a gold or green TTA lol.

I think they were more like in the $150 range when they came out and you could pre-order them ...

I got all 3rd Gen Firebird's that Greenlight done so far and got extras (for me) of all the TTA (white) versions they done.

I collect all TTA magazines (you all seen that) and cost me a small fortune over the years.

Also into all 3rd Gen Firebird stuff so got loads of diecasts, dealer only items BUT big focus for me is the 1989 stuff including the Indy 500 related items.

Always something out there "you want" but for me shipping is a big issue (both from a cost point of view but also sellers on ebay that wont ship across the pond) however I'm lucky I could ship to some people on this board and also to some colleagues at my US offices to pick up when I got a trip scheduled out there (got some cool stuff @ our CA office right now to pick up when out there in May).
 
I bid on the tumbler set as we'll. I was out at $200. I also sent an offer of $300 for the gold die-cast car and that was rejected. It is amazing how high priced some collectibles are for our cars. Imagine the prices in 10 years.

An FYI, I had contacted the seller of the gold car BEFORE ebay and at that time he wanted $300. I thought about it for a week and contacted him back when it was on ebay. His price went up and he no longer would take $300. Whatever. Kinda pissed me off, but I guess in retrospect, I dont want to pay $300 now, so maybe he will get what he wants for it. A couple of those sold for around $150 earlier this year on ebay.
 
To me, if the die cast isn't an exact replica of the TTA is worthless to me, just because it has a turbo 6 plastic motor and decals doesn't make it a TTA when its gold., I had several ttop die casts, then found a couple of hardtops and bought those, collection complete now :)

And I'm really keen to see those photos and videos you mention of testing @ Indy; is that testing of the TTA @ Indy or something else?
