Antenna cable

WS6

Stay thirsty my friends
Anyone know here what length of coax antenna cable our cars need? Ever have one out and measure it?

thanks..

What happened was that I decided to send the radio out and have it "gone through". It happened been crackling and dropping volume levels for about the last 2 years.
United called me to tell me it was performing fine and they could find no issue other than the tape deck was bad,I have no use for a tape deck but for the base fee that was charged they were gonna do something. So a new player was put in and they replaced the worn buttons on the front so that's cool.
He told me to look at the antenna cable and sure enough there's a slice about 8" from the plug that couldn't possibly be helping the reception.
So come to find out when I replaced the the end with a"new" Motorola end our decks have the next generation "mini" antenna plug GM decided to use.

So either I need a new mini ended antenna wire or some sort of adapter to mini from the motorola end I put on.

Well...it wasn't an easy find for me, around here anyway. Because of the nice weather I'm in an impatient mood so I was going to source one locally come hell or high water.

I went to radio shack first and I don't know about you guys but the radio shack's around here are more interested in cell phone plans, batteries or $2 extended service plans on my $4 purchase....seriously....they never heard of the brand "delco" in car audio.

So I went to another audio place...they went out of business recently...the "ricer" co-worker sent me to walmart and they had them, but in reverse configuration, as though I were replacing the head unit and not the antenna.

A couple more stops...including the dealer, and I went to a truck accessory shop that sells audio stuff too and he had dozens of mini to Motorola patch cables...so he went into the back and found one used motorola to mini adaptor that he sold me for a couple bucks.

I spent more time typing this reply then getting the stereo back in and up and running.

But thanks for the suggestions and links and if I hadn't found one today I would have bought one online....hopefully anyone else that has this issue will find this thread useful.

And you can also get the plug on it's own and crimp it onto your new antenna cable; I would guess Radio Shack have them.

I don't mean to resurrect an old thread but does anyone know where to find the original antenna connector our TTA's used? Someone cut off the original connector on mine and just kind of shoved the wire into the radio. Needless to say, the reception is pretty bad but I still want to use the original radio.

I ended up using the connector off of a "Metra 40-GM21 GM Radio Antenna Adapter with Barbless Connnector" and soldering it to the existing antenna wire for now. Works great.
