Antenna motor running and car is off?

It was a nice day. I drove the car for the 1st time this year and everything was fine. Turned on the radio, antenna went up like normal. I parked the car and shut it off and then I noticed the antenna motor was running like it was stuck or something. Is the power antenna fried or is there a fix? I had to disconnect the battery in order for it to stop.

If you turn the radio back on, does the antenna go up? It might be that the long plastic drive gear (cable thingy) for the mast is broken and the motor doesn't shut off until it feels that the mast is fully down. If the plastic gear cable is broke the motor will not have enough current draw to say that it is down and then the motor will keep running. I hope I explained this so it makes sense. :eeks:

The antenna will not go back up now. I am very aggrivated.

I know there is a write up somewhere about replacing the antenna. Unfortunately, because of its location it is a little bit of a PITA. Do a search for "antenna" and see what you come up with. I believe there is a relay you can pull to avoid it running in the mean time.

you can unplug the power to the antene located near the pass side fender near the fire wall. Sorry to say you need a new mast kit or new antene. bin there done that. point of interest I read somewhere that GM recoments lubricating the mast by wiping it down with a small mont of karosene on a rag.

if you want to unplug the antenna and have everything else work that is on that fuse, take off the plastic cover on the pass side above the knee's there is a connector right behind that panel, that way the power is disconnected to the antenna, and not everything else. Hope this helps !! I found the changing of the antenna is a little tricky, but is not too bad .... IF YOU DON'T GET ALL RAMMY !!!!
