I don't mind working on dads GN but everything on the TTA is an absolute bitch. Worked on it about 4.5 hours today and my back is on fire.

Installed the Tbrake

And removed everything so I can start removing the headers...I can't even budge the bolts..

I thought they were a bitch to work on until I worked on a 3000GT VR4 and now I've been working on my buddys LT1 with a Vortech blower.

On the LT1s you have to take the alternator out to be able to take the passenger valve cover off. On his car you have to take the whole aftercooler assembly off to do the drivers side plugs, and if you're anyone but me (skinny and flexible) you have to take the starter out to do the passenger plugs. You have to pull the motor to pull the oil pan.

For the VR4, you have to remove the entire intake system and vacuum lines in order to do the rear plugs, it's like a 5 hour job.

I know about the LT1 too. What a PITA. Looking good Jason. Can't wait for OHIO.:burnrubber:

I've always found the TTA's pretty easy to work on, compared to TPI thirdgens and other fuel injected f-bodies (LT1/LS1). Of course I've only owned three turbo buicks and I didnt do as much work on them as I have TTA's.

Then again I've found my E55 pretty easy to work on where most people dont want to touch most MB products

Jason what are you doing to the headers?

They are cracked on both sides in about 10 places. That tick my "motor" has always had is not a motor tick needless to say. The last pass in BG my boost was running 18-19 where I had previously run 26-27 on the same boost settings.

Something changed!

...as long as things go well and there's time...it's fun to work on the TTA! When things don't go well....it's no fun!:furious:
Lot's of simple small irritations like the trans cooler lines passing in front of the pan bolts, or a stupid hex bolt for the oil pan, or a weak hinge system for the rear 5,000lb hatch which allows the hatch to 'move' out of alignment (recent fix attempt)...but overall it's still fun!

Quik,
Then next time you start hating it, or get frustrated, just let it sit, go have a soda, surf the web, then go back to it. Things work better when you've walked away sometimes.

Im going thru the same BS with the GN. I got chinese TA headers bolted up to the engine. Drop it in, Pass header is being a bitch and needs to be tweaked. I said F it. took them off and sold them. Im putting my stock ones on after i get 1 crack fixed and over the winter im buying NEW TA's getting them ceramic coated and being done with it. What a lesson learned on that chink crap! :jason:

I just hope to get this damn car running this year!:wall:

+1...no +100 on the TPI being much worse. You haven't cursed the unimaginable words till you've replaced the intake gasket set and injectors on a TPI engine. There's those 2 bolts on the inside of the runners..Arghhh. Put an adjustable FP regulator on one then try to adjust that! And spark plugs?? Nobody changes 5,7 from the top.
I find most of the topside work on the LC2 to be easy, but I can't even imagine what taking the headers off will entale. I don't envy you Jason.

The only reason I haven't fixed my bad lifter is I don't want to change the cam too and I know that is the only right way to do this. I'm having too much fun driving it to have it down that long.

The biggest problem with any 3rd gen is getting it up in the air with floor jacks and jack stands. I just dread it when I know I have to get underneath....I need a 2 post lift....

That is one advantage I do get for being a car dealer. 3 hoists to use whenever I want. Unfortunately I end up getting lazy at times. Just too easy to drive in to work, hand over keys on the way in the door, pick up the car done on the way out. It cost a few extra bucks so I need to work extra hard to sell an extra car to make up for my lack of mechanical ambishion.

O getting it on a lift is a pain too. You have to jack up the passenger side just to get the arm under the testpipe/cutout/converter. Now I am by no means complaining but it's not the easiest thing to do.
